I would argue that Tech is one of the few schools that have matched that with Heisman, Alexander, and Dodd. Ironically, if Dodd had hung it up earlier, we probably could have gotten a fourth in Frank Broyles.
Maybe we’ll be running multiple sets, and certain players will have DE responsibilities in some sets and OLB responsibilities in others. So they get coached along with anyone who would be considered a Will or Sam linebacker.
I don’t know that Bala would be the right choice. He barely has any DC experience, and it sounds like he didn’t do very well in those roles. Given his resume, I’d rather go with Ted Roof. And I’d rather go with Scherrer than Roof. At a minimum, whoever we hire needs to be more promising than...
Hahahahahaha! Chances are that by the time we play them, the only remnants from his staff still at Tech will be Key and Weinke. Key is no longer the OL coach, and Weinke is coaching players who weren’t around when MoBS was. You think G**** C****** has this game circled? Key probably hates MoBS...
As he deserved. It’s okay to feel like the rebuild will take a while and to expect that the head coach needs a fairly long leash to accomplish it. However, as the Athletic Director, he was the one who could make the decision to keep or fire the head coach, regardless of the contract. As was...
What I’ve heard is that until he got to Tech he had a habit of taking jobs that good coaches had left and riding the coattails of his predecessors to give the impression that he was good at his job. It makes sense. Look at his predecessors at those jobs: Manny Diaz at Mississippi State (and...
I don’t think the idea that we got lucky at that point in that game is the point of contention; I’m pretty sure the controversial part is extrapolating from that one data point to conclude that the biggest comparative advantage Brent Key has over other head coaches is luck. And my counter...
No matter how he does for them, this is good for us because there was no way we were ever going to hire him again, and this means UNC won’t be competing with us for the candidate(s) we are going after.
The article gives Sanders a pass because he was “under a microscope” but neglects to mention that the scrutiny was of his own making. He was only being judged harshly by outsiders because he ran his mouth all year long.
There is one potential motivation that could get Kirby to leave for the NFL: pride. He was undrafted after college and got cut from the NFL in preseason. His mentor Nick Saban tried being a head coach in the NFL and failed. If Kirby wants to prove that he’s better than Saban, one way of doing...
The good news is that I’m pretty confident Brent Key would have our guys motivated to play if we found ourselves in F$U’s situation. He’d probably say something like “They didn’t take us in the playoffs because they think we got lucky this year. Let’s show them how wrong they are about Georgia...
I like Marco as a person and Tech man, but I think Simpson is an upgrade if that’s the case. Our D-Line was not a strength and often a liability, even though Marco recruited most of the players he was coaching. If Key felt that Tillman was performing poorly enough not to be retained, then Marco...
I think he’s saying that usually the coordinator gets to pick the position coaches, even if they get announced before the coordinator. I promise that Brent didn’t decide to hire Geep Wade without Buster Faulkner’s permission. The biggest exception is probably Chris Weinke because he’s just that...
Simpson seems pretty good at what he does. He’s coached DL at the HS, college, and NFL levels, so he probably knows how to develop guys from start to finish and can help guys improve no matter where they are in their development. I expect that our DL will improve a lot by the end of next season!
