By 2036 the ACC will be irrelevant, so it won't really matter. IMO since it's agreement by the ACC membership the GOR was the eventual death of the ACC. If it only had say 4-5 yrs to run maybe not but 13 yrs, ACC has very little meaning on the National college sports scene in 2035.
It is really pretty simple as I've seen it talked about by Big school officials, they are interested in your media mkt and they want to be the national CFB conference if you look at where they want to go etc. They are really following the NFL model. You might want to dig out the Ohio State Pres...
Vespidae, it's not just about GT by a long shot, if that were the case I doubt if the Big 10 would be interested in GT, not sure you are seeing that based on your comments I read.
I've never been of the opinion that the SEC was even interested in being a National conference. I believe media mkts is ahead of brands by a long shot when you're looking at the long game. Brands come and go with winning/losing coaches. Therefore those making the business decisions of who to ask...
It is apparent to many that the Big 10 wants to be a national conference, it seems they feel that is the only way they survive long term, or your points would make some sense. I imagine there will be both expansion and increase to existing schools but maybe not as big of increase to existing...
I doubt any school will voluntarily walk away from the ACC without knowing where they are going. Too many people close to the realignment say there is ongoing talk behind the scenes for me not to believe that is more than likely happening. I'm convinced at this point that cfb is going to have 3...
CFB was about money in the 50s, just not as much money because there was very little TV money at the time. The Mississippi schools hated GT because we would not play them and that was all about the money. We filled BDS, Auburn used to play GT every year in Atlanta because the money was bigger...
This is just me, but for all the doubters whether GT ends up in a power conference, it's real simple to me. The Big wants to be the National Conference in CFB, they want media mkts and they require AAU membership. IMO the BIG will come down the eastern US with acquisitions of schools, and they...
The GOR is death, no way the ACC is relevant when the GOR is finished and that is really what this is all about. I don't think the original four ever thought that the other schools were ever going for unequal revenue sharing. I believe the ACC will no longer be in 5 years or less.
On the surface it would look that way, but some of us think there is a lot more going on behind the scenes. That seven or eight schools may have places they can land that they would rather be, not all in the same conference. Speculation as to where each would land, at least in certain of the...
Nice to know the details of how it benefits, hope I can remember but doubt I will. Seems like I do remember the Ohio State Pres using the word collaborate in her statement of the Big 10 having much more meaning than sports.
The President of Ohio State said that the connection that "the Gopher" is referring to if i heard her right is that they share their research projects among other Big 10 schools, don't think she ever said anything about research $ going to sports. Her beginning words were the Big 10 is much more...
I expect that is what will happen, seems like i saw something with the media and Big 10 negotiations where the media and big 10 sort of left it open ended in some sort of way in order for future expansion to take place.
I've been somewhat of a student of what is going on with the media and their...
Forensic buzz said: Plus the AAU is a big deal to the B1G.
According to some I've listened to from the Big 10 it is the big deal. It is enormous money to them, supposedly multi billions of dollars to the schools.
My impression of the AAU is that it is very political. With as many members that come from the Big 10 schools I'm guessing they swing a lot of weight when it comes to membership, invites etc. Thus in a previous post of mine I mentioned that if FSU wants in and the Big schools want them for FB...
