  1. Coach Paul Johnson Tears Into Geoff Collins

I agree, but the way Tech ran a simple belly dive over and over right down the field in the 3rd quarter showed a lack of adjustment we all came to know and deplore when TFG became Tech's coach. And, btw, every word Paul's says is 100% correct.
  2. Coach Paul Johnson Tears Into Geoff Collins

Are you ever right. As I've said here before, Tony was another O. J. Roughly the same size - OJ was an inch taller, Tony 5 lbs heavier - and the same results: 5 yds, 4 yds, 15 yards, 5 yds, 25 yds and so on. Give him hole of any size and a clear field with DBs within 5 yds and it was game over...
  3. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

    Indeed? Let's look at the inter-conference records, shall we? ACC win-loss records against other P-5 conferences, 2023: SEC: 7 - 5 BIG: 4-4 BIG12: 1- 4 PAC12: 0 - 1 Overall: 12 - 14 And, for reference sake, overalls against all out-of-conference opponents in 2023 for : SEC: 12...
  4. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

Actually, that's the problem. The ACC has a lot of very good teams (or has in recent years) and they conspire to knock each other off. Like I said before, it's Every Man for Himself and God Against All, Werner Hertzog's great aphorism. Iow, the old ACC basketball formula applied to football. The...
  5. GT over/under 5.5 wins in 2024

Werner Hertzog describes ACC football best: Every Man For Himself and God Against All
  6. GT over/under 5.5 wins in 2024

Yes to everything but this. They had a great recruiting year in 2023 and Riley Leonard is the real deal. I'm penciling them in to compete for the national championship.
  7. GT over/under 5.5 wins in 2024

I think having Lockett playing regularly will make a big difference. In limited duty last year he proved a real disrupter. Also, yes, I think 6 wins again would be a good performance by the team. If they get 7 or 8 I'll be pleasantly surprised.
  8. The Dawgs and the Jackets in the Super Bowl

I like Mitchell too, but I've always said the formula holds: Give Mason 20 carries and he'll get you 90 - 100 yards. He always has and my guess is that if the Niners did that they would get the same results. The guy is nothing if not consistent. That TFG always wanted to play his recruits...
  9. The Dawgs and the Jackets in the Super Bowl

So I'm watching WSB news at 6:00. And sure enough a story was put on about the Dogs in the Super Bowl. Then they mentioned Butker as the only Jacket! Despite Jordan Mason being the #2 RB for the 49ers. I got on the phone (404.897.6276) and complained. The guy on the other end seemed...
  10. College football is a mess

Btw, I screwed up. It's THE FINANCIAIL CRISIS INQUIRY REPORT, My bad. Here's the URL: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/GPO-FCIC/pdf/GPO-FCIC.pdf Well worth the read, imho. The graphs explaining how mortgage based securities, CDOs, and synthethic CDOs work are well worth the price.
  11. College football is a mess

I think the present disquiet about college football - that I share, btw - is not due to the "influence of money". As many above have pointed out, money has been an influence since the sport started. The problem is scale and lack of constraints. I'm in the process of reading, for about the fifth...
  12. Bobby Dodd grass

Let me make myself perfectly clear: all forms of artificial "grass", "turf", or whatever euphemism they've come up with lately for various artificial products to put on football fields suck and suck big time. The only surface to play football on is grass. Period. Full Stop. And, in case any of...
  13. RIP Aubbie HoF WR Terry Beasley (Links)

Ah, yes: The Too Short Fallacy. You would think Russell Wilson put paid to that one, though you still see some teams we know that want the QBs 6'3" or better. Pat deserved better out of his pro career, but I think he missed Terry too much. I remember Beasley very well and share the general...
  14. Selective enforcement once again: NCAA strikes again

    NCAA: "No. But Congress can."
  15. ProJackets Update

    It's like I always say …
  16. ProJackets Update

In a way I Hope Mason doesn't get that extension (though I bet he does). I think that with a new team *cough* the Falcons *cough* he would have a good chance to start. It would require team with a downhill running game, but there are plenty of NFL teams like that these days. Buuuut … the...
  17. 2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

Normally, I'd agree 100%. Past performance is the best way to predict anything and football is no exception. However … When you look at what Elko did to the Duke D using pretty much the same base of players you have to admit that something changed and the coach is the best explanation. Duke was...
  18. 2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

Well … actually FSU got bypassed because Jordan Travis got hurt and two games showed that his #2 couldn't restore FSU to the team that went undefeated. It didn't matter that they had beat a few big teams (da U, Flahdah, Clemson, LSU) and were undefeated because they simply weren't the same team...
  19. 2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

Jeebus. As I keep saying, we need to schedule to win. Not play hard and lose. Not hope for the occasional knock-out. Not revel in memories of how close we came to a winning season. But playing more teams that we have a decent chance of beating. Contrary to what some fonts are saying, that...
  20. Today is early enrollee and transfer move-in day

In reference to some point above, I generally expect the heights and weights of incoming football recruits to be off by a considerable extent. Looking at them, I'd guess Maddox at 6'1", as advertised, and Currie at least 6'2" and maybe taller. But we'll all know when the programs come out for...
