recruiting classes and off topic posts

Yep, leaving 9K on the table and trying to act like an 18 yr old clunker is the best you could do is weak sauce.

    MAKE TECH GREAT AGAIN!

Agreed - time to modernize: let's call it the Gold New Deal. Socialist-loving millennials everywhere will love it!

    Ye olde coachinge debates

Agreed - McKee was a tough act to follow. You gotta feel bad for Coach Heisman, trying to walk in those footsteps.

    Ye olde coachinge debates

Have you ever listened to sports talk radio? Topics like this are the norm, esp. in the offseason, which we're now firmly in the middle of! I don't understand the necessity to pop into a thread you don't "care about" and basically insult all its participants. What I do for those threads is...

    Your Favorite Underrated GT player?

you stole mine so I'll add Greg Lester's name to the thread. He made some great catches back in the day.

We won 9 games, finished 5th in the Coastal and finished outside the top 25. Not "Great" but a good year with a really nice finish.

the '16 game vs the mutts was one of the few times I've seen PJ make adjustments in-game. His deep-pass playcalling was a nice adjustment that completely turned the game in our favor. 2016 was similar to the 1989 Ross season IMO.

recruiting class of 2007 helped 2008 happen, is my guess.

Agreed - he definitely had some great moments. I don't think the bad moments negate those but when I look at his tenure, it's a sum of all the moments IMO.

those were nice but have to be balanced against the horror shows of 2009 and 2013. PJ actually had a chance to be 50-60% vs the mutts, which would've been amazing. Instead, he won 30%, which is nice compared to Gailey but is still 30%. That's great when trying to hit a baseball but I've not...

    Ye olde coachinge debates

I put him in the top 3 HCs since I became a fan in the early 80s. Ross, GOL, PJ are my top 3.

CPJ dissension is understandable since he was our HC for 11 years but CGC hatred makes no sense - the guy hasn't coached a single game for us yet!

Ross walked into a disaster and won a natty inside of 4 years. Johnson walked into the highest-ranked recruiting class (ever?) in memory and didn't win a single bowl game with it. A .500 FBS record over the last 9 years accurately sums up his tenure here: Some great moments and some awful...

    Paul Johnson era signature game

I like the article's explanation (paraphrased): "If he goes for it and fails, the coach is blamed. If he punts it and loses, the team (defense) is blamed". If a coach does start going for it on 4th and 1 from their own 25 early in the game, they better convert at least 80% of the time else...

    Paul Johnson era signature game

Here's what I found and you're right -> http://www.advancedfootballanalytics.com/index.php/home/research/game-strategy/120-4th-down-study So question is, if it's so statistically favorable to do so, why aren't ANY coaches actually doing so? (The article touches on some reasons). You might...

    Paul Johnson era signature game

Except going for it "more often than not" isn't really accurate. More often than not, the game situation dictates a punt.

    Paul Johnson era signature game

meh, it's all very situational. 4th and 1 at the 50 and up 9+ pts late in the 4th? Punt it and make the opponent use clock to try to score twice to beat you, rather than risking giving them the ball at the 50. 4th and 1 from your own 30 in the 1st qtr? Punt it every single time. Agreed...
