Willie Fritz and the spread option

I totally agree and freely admit bias here: I had season tix in the late 90s and saw just about every game in 1998, including the fun Bowl win over hated Notre Dame. JoeHam and those WRs are some of my favorite alltime GT football players and really helped us get out of the B**L** doldrums...

Willie Fritz and the spread option

you're moving the goalposts though. My comment was about attracting elite talent, which the TO did not do. You claimed it did but are now backtracking and saying "who cares" that it doesn't and questioning the recruiting services. That's a point worth discussing in another thread but for now...

Willie Fritz and the spread option

It was a great season. I think 1998 was better but 2014 was still a ton of fun, mostly at the end. The 2 losses after 5-0 start took a bit of momentum out of it for me, as did the loss to FSU. It's not denigration to point out that we lost 3X that season. Just a fact.

Willie Fritz and the spread option

now you are taking the 'revisionist history' position. While they absolutely turned out to be elite players, neither Shaq nor Braun were considered 'elite' talent when they were 3-star recruits we were going after. JT was a 4-star recruit but we were the only ones who recruited him to play...

Willie Fritz and the spread option

I mean, so far it has NOT appealed to the elite players everyone covets. That's not an opinion at this point - it's fact. It's one of several reasons other P5 schools flat-out aren't running this scheme nor came after PJ for openings nor Monken nor Ken N. His opinion isn't garbage but...

Willie Fritz and the spread option

Hiring another service academy coach just kicks the can of football irrelevancy down the road a few more years. Fan interest in that type of offense - and defense - was gone. Attendance was dwindling. Season ticket sales were cratering. We were 1000 miles away from a CFP berth. Outside of...

    If you are asking WHY

who did he want that he didn't get that would've been willing to come here, given the restrictions of the school and scheme in place already?

    Apples and Oranges

It's a new attitude though. I don't remember this sort of elitism pre-PJ.

    If you are asking WHY

I agree with this 100%. Also, Navy literally recruits itself. There are plenty of quality young men that you describe who will choose a service academy over any factory for many reasons (all of them good ones). Service Academy coaches don't have to fly around the country, spreading the word...

    If you are asking WHY

No amount of spending was going to bring certain types of OL / DL to the program. Not sure why this is debatable when plenty of kids and HS coaches have confirmed it numerous times but most quality-talent HS football players simply did not want to play in the PJ Scheme. No amount of $$$ was...

    Apples and Oranges

I never did understand the "outsider paranoia" that some fans had during PJ's tenure. Stuff like Scheduling Conspiracy with Bye Weeks, Intentionally-bad refereeing, etc was all tied back to some mysterious hatred/fear of PJ, which is nonsensical. I don't think the referees have gotten any...

    Apples and Oranges

yeah only TO had any real, relevant gametime experience whatsoever. Graham's last gametime exp. prior to 2019 was against 16 & 17 yr olds 2 years ago. LJ's was 3 years ago.

    Apples and Oranges

There's nothing CGC can do. He's not CPJ or Monken so will never win those types of fans over. Those fans will literally never be happy with him because the TO and its branch of coaches aren't coming here nor are any former Ga Southern option coaches coming here.

    Apples and Oranges

The Bolded is largely in part to the scheme itself and ADs across America are more familiar with our situation than most fans like to think. Remember- almost every outsider to the program predicted we'd struggle mightily (even as fans like me believed the opposite) and so far, the outsiders are...

    If you are asking WHY

^So much this. The fans who are against CGC refuse to acknowledge that the type of OL and DL that we need now were not flocking to play in PJ's offense (nor defense). It's the main reason we're 1-5. It's funny - on the one hand, there's an opinion that we need Monken ball because of our...

    Apples and Oranges

IMO it's pretty clear there's a contingent of PJ fans who absolutely do not want CGC to succeed so that we will foolishly hire Jeff Monken and bring Service Academy ball back to the Flats. The good news is...that ain't happenin'. Regardless of what happens with CGC, we aren't going back to...

Has Georgia Tech Football entered the Bill Lewis Era part II?

I was given a warning - "Don't bash the previous staff - it's against site rules" but apparently this only applies to St. PJ and his Apostles since trolling posts like this garbage are allowed by the Admins. Bill Lewis, Chan Gailey et al are all "previous staff".
