you think the O looks the same the past 2 games, actually scoring a few TDs, as it did when it got blanked vs Temple, who is worse than both Duke and UNC?
Agreed but is it more of a function of the D regressing or playing better teams? Note that I'm not disagreeing that our D seems to be sliding backwards a bit. :cigar:
Nice job ignoring the part about "the previous scheme's lack of recruiting resulted in almost no depth on the OL, thus why we are having to start Walk Ons".
I guess the fact that you are finally admitting serious issues on the OL (you do consider having to play Walk Ons in game 4 to be a...
you said it shouldn't be that difficult and isn't a monumental task, all evidence to the contrary.
Your original point is incorrect for reasons already listed.
so it's OK if CGC can't pull in good recruits? I'm betting the same fans who hate him right now will be relentless if he doesn't recruit well even as they excuse other coaches for that inability.
Good post with interesting points.
I'll counter with this: Our best (re:rated) recruiting class in school history was by a non-Option coach in 2007. So we've shown it possible to attract elite talent on both sides of the ball (It's notable your post only dealt with the Offensive side of the...
the refusal to acknowledge the deleterious effects of having to play walk-on OL due to injuries & lack of depth due to poor recruiting is just disingenuous.
Even PJ's scheme would've had major issues trotting out our current OL. Anyone who disagrees is willfully forgetting 2015.
Thankfully...
Again, not sure why you put words into my mouth. I've not said anything about how ****ty the results can be in ANY year. I've only pointed out that our biggest problem in this transition is our OL, which is due to the system we previously played in.
Year 2? Again, not sure where that's...
Sorry but Coach Woody's defense stunk in the first and last games last year. His defense was terrible at tackling, terrible at angles-to-ball-carriers, terribly stupid soft pass coverage, etc. This is based on observation of an entire season.
Thack's D has taken a step backwards (or more...
Repeating the same thing while ignoring the massive deficiencies on our OL and DL BECAUSE of playing in the Option offense doesn't make your point correct.
Not sure where this "Year 3" belief suddenly came into play and why you lump me into a 5-year category???? I agree that we absolutely...
We're just simply going to be in polite disagreement (as well as with the others who've Liked my opinion). The "few areas of dire need" (OL and DL) have such a massive effect on the entirety of the offensive and defensive scheme changes that...if you don't see that, it's honestly not worth...
tongue-in-cheek snark with a sprinkling of sarcasm. We'd get along great together IRL, no sarcasm as long as those goalposts didn't move around so much!
Go Jackets - we agree on that at least.
Converting a small'ish team with a run-heavy option offense to something that involves more passing and stand-up blocking actually has NOT happened many times in recent college football.
We were clearly talking about the previous scheme and its effects. I apologize for not seeing your single sentence there as an attempt to encompass all former GT coaches and schemes into the conversation. Given the lack of recruiting services that long ago, I'm not sure it's accurate to label...
no, that discussion was specifically about the scheme of the last coach and its effects on attracting elite talent, or rather its inability to do so. No other prior coaches were ever a part of the discussion.
I didn't think anyone would take a comment of "Let it go lol" as serious, esp. since...
Ummm...you & I were having a polite discussion about the scheme and its effects on elite talent. That would naturally include discussing the previous coach.
No, players came that got better but weren't rated "elite" when they got here. Star ratings absolutely matter for the discussion we're having. Plus, pointing out literally 3 guys in 11 years as examples of Elite Talent flooding into the program is actually proving the opposite.
A top-40...
