    Tech's Likelihood of Winning

247 doesn't think so, for what it's worth.

    Tech's Likelihood of Winning

One thing I like about our schedule is that we get to play a potentially tough but winnable game out of the gate. So we'll quickly understand a lot more about our team's potential than if we played either a vastly superior team that curb-stomps us or conversely one where we aren't really tested...

General News about Key and his Staff

You both make good points. The implied accuracy of the fourth decimal place on a recruit’s rating likely exists only for relative comparison; I can’t imagine even the rating services take it that seriously. And I won’t revisit the many critiques of the rankings/rating systems that have been...

General News about Key and his Staff

https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2024/all-teams/football Rivals has us at 24, 1 below Bama. Of course, this is very early in the recruiting calendar. Were not as highly ranked on 247, but they haven't assigned a ranking to several of our recruits yet.

ACC coaches speak anonymously about every team ahead of 2023 season.

Unfortunately, the revenue model for journalism has changed to the point where free=clickbait/poorly researched and written. Everyone wants free, and you get what you pay for in most instances. I still maintain a subscription to The Athletic, even though they no longer have much GT coverage...

    Conference Realignment

Since no one seems to have details of the ESPN agreement, does anyone care to speculate on the revenue payout calculation? It seems to be increasing each year. Is it tied to ad revenue, eyeballs, or is there some sort of escalating revenue guarantee? Just wondering, since in the face of...

    GTAA Debt and Finances

I'm speculating, but it's possible that the Knight data includes endowment draws that are not included in the Contributions component of the $85M Operating Revenue. The draws are listed and explained in the GTAA Financial Statement, which counts them in their cash-based financials but not in...

    GTAA Debt and Finances

While it doesn't change your basic point about needing to fix our debt situation, the revenue number reported by the same Knight database that was used for Debt ($278M checks out) lists our 2022 revenue at $107M, not $79M. We're still near the top in D:R, but it's not quite as egregious as the...

    Conference Realignment

This would be the simplest explanation for the latest news. The contract(s) reported last August could simply have been the high-level agreements, with the final drafts being submitted as late as this year. It's also possible that they've been in the current draft form for a while but the...

    Conference Realignment

I mean, it's unfathomable that the news media would exaggerate and dramatize information, right? ;) You make valid points about the veracity of the story. However, if it's true that the individual schools (and their attorneys) only recently obtained the "long form" of the contract with the...

    Conference Realignment

"Recently, schools have found out: They are going to have to pay back nearly $40 million to Fox because, according to sources, Warren delivered NBC the Big Ten football title game in 2026 without the full authority to do so. This all has unfolded under the complicated backdrop of the Big Ten...

    Well, that's that

This issue is more complex than it may seem and is by no means a done deal. First, the NLRB does not apply to state employees, which will exclude the vast majority of D1 athletes. Notably, the complaint lists USC which is a private school. Second, the universities will argue that S-As do not...

ACC AD Meetings - New Revenue Distribution Model?

You might be right. But I would expect tying post-season revenue to the teams that earn it is attractive to enough of the conference to get the rules changed. Not just the teams that expect to regularly make the football playoffs, but also those teams that are frequent participants in the NCAA...

ACC AD Meetings - New Revenue Distribution Model?

Re-allocating the incremental payouts from the CFP and NCAA Tourney with a bias towards the schools that earned them actually sounds workable and fair, and hard to argue against. That way the ESPN media revenue distribution remains unchanged and avoids any sort of arbitrary “reputation-based”...

    Conference Realignment

Well said. Also, I think the GOR, while distinct from the exit fee, was also created around the time of Maryland’s leaving, and for similar reasons. So they sort of reinforce each other. FSU was then the ACC’s premier football program and a frequent national title contender. I recall at the...

Article Georgia Tech signee Eric Singleton achieving greatness on track

We had a similar discussion on Eric's recruiting thread. According to the article, he also ran a 10.2(!) in one race but it doesn't count because the meet lacked a wind speed gauge. That's approaching Tyreek Hill territory.

    Conference Realignment

It will be interesting to see what ND does when its current NBC contract expires after the 2024 season, which isn't that far away. They currently receive only $22M from NBC plus about $10M from the ACC, putting them at or near the bottom of the P5. Should they choose to remain independent...

    Conference Realignment

Not to pile on (well maybe a little bit) since this topic has been beaten to death already, but there are so many false assumptions in this post I have to respond. "...ESPN...when they already own the rights?" The ACC owns the media rights, not ESPN. The ACC has a media broadcast contract with...

    Midtown’s Magic 🎱 @ NIL

As said in another thread devoted to this topic, the decision by the NCAA to eliminate the one-year sit-out rule just as NIL was coming into play is a complete head-scratcher. It's one of the very few realistic (enforceable) means they have left to rein in the free-for-all that is occurring now.
