Yet another CPJ vs CGC thread

Valid point. While I honestly don't know if prior results affected recruiting, we had positive momentum and favorable publicity coming off two good seasons when we recruited the 2010 class. We did not sustain it, despite having another uptick in 2014 and again in 2016.

Maybe because we didn't win the conference championship the previous year?

    Tech vs. Louisville

Complements my earlier post "Also worth mentioning for “mental toughness” is that 3 of our 4 wins after Key took over were second-half come-from-behind wins. How many of these types of wins did we have in the prior 3 years?" Seems like after the coaching change we acquired an ability to yank...

    Tech vs. Louisville

Hard to argue with those statistics, which would indicate that we should have, on average, won 2.5 of the 5 one-score games. So 1.5 of our wins can be attributed to luck (How do you win 0.5 of a game? With statistics!). But I think the improvements we saw after Key took over positioned us to...

    Tech vs. Louisville

The offense scored 3 points. Defense scored a TD on a pick-6 and kept the score within reach had we been able to move the ball. Offense may have been worse in the Ole Miss game, but it was close. In any case, I saw improvement in the offense over the course of the season.

    Tech vs. Louisville

Our defense and (I think) special teams were solid against Virginia. Our offense was putrid. As I recall, after Sims went out, UVA blitzed our 3rd string QB and the result was panic. He improved as the season progressed. I am hopeful that our now-experienced QB room will be decent against...

    Conference Realignment

There are some new players in town that could eventually hold some sway over the conferences. I outlined a possible future scenario in this post: https://gtswarm.com/threads/nil-transfers-and-stratospheric-salaries-what-is-the-future-of-gt-football-and-college-football-in-general.26262/post-952582

    Conference Realignment

An interesting concept. Perhaps the Saudis are the only entity with deep enough pockets to completely reform D1 college football? By chance, does anyone here know a Saudi prince?

NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

I've said before that the NCAA eliminating this rule is a head-scratcher. The beauty of the sit-out rule is that it's easily enforceable (one of the few rules that are, unlike tampering).

When this issue came into view, there was an article where someone did an analysis of our schedules and those of our ACC brethren. IIRC, it showed that we had about twice as many instances of opponents scheduling bye weeks prior to playing us. Not sure if it also factored in scheduling cupcakes...

You seem to have the impression that I regret the Johnson era. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was simply stating that as great as Johnson’s tenure at GT was, he was also, in my opinion, not good for the program in the long run. These things can both be true. To answer your...

Yet another CPJ vs CGC thread

CPJ gave us some great wins and great seasons. I credit him with rekindling my own flagging interest in GT football. That said, @jacketup has a point, despite overstating it. Hard to argue that CPJ left the roster better than he found it. Over his tenure, the perception of GT’s program changed...

    Tech vs. Louisville

I can play the “what if” game too. What if the Pitt receiver had not made a great catch in the end zone with 14 seconds left in the game to make it a one-score game? It would have been a 12-point win. Were we “lucky” to have to play our 3rd and 4th string QBs in the UNC game? I’m not going to...

    Tech vs. Louisville

You could argue that our schedule after the coaching change was no weaker, even discounting uga. Prior to the change we had 2 tough teams, one team (UCF) that we could have beaten, and one cupcake. After the change, aside from uga, we had Pitt, FSU, Miami, and UNC, and went 2/2 against them...

    Tech vs. Louisville

Hard to gauge us based on the full 2022 season, since we had a coaching change and to me appeared to make significant strides towards being at least average. I don’t have the stats for our before/after Key transition last year, but have some reasons for optimism. Special teams improved...

NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

Agree that NCAA oversight over NIL is a bigger deal for this legislation. But when I read that I thought - How do they expect the NCAA to manage the cat rodeo that is NIL, when they (apparently) don't have the staffing or the will to enforce most of the rules and responsibilities they already have?

NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

Although expected, this is an interesting development. One thing I picked up on is the legislation’s proposal to require athletes to sit out a year after transferring. So, we have the following timeline: NCAA has rule that requires athletes to sit out a year after transfer. NCAA eliminates this...

    CBS Coaches Hot Seat

Probably a combination of both. I mean, if you are really trying to be objective about it, there are multiple factors to consider for defining how "hot" the seat should be. For example, the fanbase and booster's expectations are influenced by the school's winning history, both recent and over...

    Conference Realignment

I posted this today in the thread about the "future of football". I think the NCAA will still exist, but will spin off FBS football governance. https://www.knightcommission.org/wp...ndations-for-change-1220-022221-update-01.pdf

    CBS Coaches Hot Seat

I think trying to make sense of this list is going to be an exercise in frustration. I can see assigning either a "1" or a "2" for first-year coaches, but a "0" (untouchable) or a "3" (pressure mounting) for coaches that have yet to coach a game in their new job? The list contains two of each...
