    CBS Coaches Hot Seat

Been looking at the range of ratings for first-year coaches and attempting to find consistencies and correlations. There are some logical explanations for Key's rating. There also could be something akin to Hanlon's razor at work here. I think you nailed it with "This is better than...

NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

Interesting concept from the Knight Commission… The Knight Commission, which seems to hold some sway with the NCAA, has long been studying the issues associated with college football, and recommended in 2021 that FBS Football be split off into a new governance organization called the National...

Key promises to make city proud of Georgia Tech

Both can be true. But @slugboy's excellent retort has me rethinking my opinion. Regardless, I think we should differentiate between "talent" as indicated by recruiting rankings, and performance-based "talent on the field" as indicated by PFF scores, all-conference selections, and the like. I...

Key promises to make city proud of Georgia Tech

Nice smack down of my opinion! I defer to your analysis. I still maintain that the “popular” and more successful teams get more publicity for their players and thus they are more easily recognized for their achievements. But I don’t have data to back that up.

Key promises to make city proud of Georgia Tech

All-conference selections, in my opinion, are biased in favor of a team's record. Earlier in this thread I had made a comment about our composite talent ranking contradicting posts about our so-called “lack of talent”. I don’t consider the 247 composite ranking “pseudoscience”. It simply takes...

Key promises to make city proud of Georgia Tech

You mean calling the false start play after a timeout? Then doing it again? Yeah, that was something I hope to never see again.

Key promises to make city proud of Georgia Tech

Yes, our talent level has been well below that of Clemson and Georgia for years now, but I don’t expect Key to close that gap quickly. On the other hand, I think many give us too little credit for our talent level, based on underperformance over the last four years. For example, our 2022 team...

    Conference Realignment

In my opinion, we need to start winning and making some noise as at least a conference contender before I expect to see more coverage.

    Conference Realignment

If by "better", you mean more articles featuring Tech, no it hasn't. The realignment articles so far have been written by Seth Emerson, the UGA beat writer. I find their in-depth articles, particularly the "human interest" ones, generally worth reading and a cut above the usual sports...

    Conference Realignment

Thanks, that was another interesting article featuring Tech prominently. Interesting to read some of the comments such as: "I thought I would hate this realignment series to be honest, but a couple days in and I’m certainly coming away with real respect for Georgia Tech. I can appreciate them...

Just putting this out there for those with a sub to The Athletic...Georgia Tech's Journey This is part of a series of articles on realignment, and a (rare for The Athletic) pretty good exploration of GT's football history going back to Dodd.

Article Georgia Tech coordinators see bump in pay

While I agree that the escalation in coaches' salaries is unsustainable, to question Key’s salary is puzzling. Let’s see… Get a coach for less than the previous two were making last year of coaching – check. Pay our coach the lowest salary in the conference – check. What exactly do you think...

Coming soon to GT: Corporate sponsorships and new names for football field and basketball gym

Speaking of tradition, last year's Rose Bowl was "The Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential". Did anyone object?

This makes so much sense I'm surprised it took us so long to find this sorely needed revenue stream. Thank you J. Batt.

    Tech's Likelihood of Winning

It's not a static situation. If we are in the "build" phase, as I think we are now, given a choice I'd want to maximize our chance of winning the OOC games, going to bowls, and having a good enough record to have a shot at getting ranked. The most loyal fans will complain about the cupcakes...

    2023 ACC News & Discussion

I wouldn't read too much into the Youtuber's comments on Disney movie profits. He may be correct based on normal "movie accounting". I've read that almost no movie makes a profit according to the studios. That's why the stars with clout ask for a percentage of the gross, not net.

NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

The game is entertainment and the players are entertainers. Always has been, whether paid or not. It can be a little easier to root for an individual player to succeed when they are a true student-athlete, but there aren't many of those anymore. Regardless, I think it's possible to focus your...

Toughness... I expect to hear it often.

My recollection is that there was a game, perhaps Virginia, where he was dressed and available but did not play. When asked why, Key would only say (and I believe he repeated it), "He was cleared to play". This led to a lot of speculation amongst fans and media. It is possible that he refused...

NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

I think there are two distinct “imbalances” here. There’s the money imbalance between players and coaches, and there’s the competitive imbalance between schools. The former is being somewhat addressed by NIL and greater mobility for the players. Unfortunately, unrestricted mobility and NIL are...
