    ACC Standings

Back to the thread topic, Louisville at 3-0 in conference/5-0 overall still stands alone at the top of the ACC. Their game tonight over NC State had more bad QB decisions between both teams than I’ve seen in a long time. Regardless, I will be shocked if they aren’t ranked this weekend.

In the 3rd quarter, it doesn’t make much sense to me to adjust your play calling to burn clock at the expense of explosive plays, unless you have a ridiculous lead. A 15-point lead is not enough. In the fourth with a 15-point lead, it might help, but would still be circumstantial. Also, with...

    Pack The Dodd

This 13-year-old article uses that number and does a deep dive into the home attendance issue with a focus on alumni locations: https://www.fromtherumbleseat.com/2010/6/16/1519085/where-do-tech-alumni-live It seems consistent with what I seem to remember from some stats in an issue of the alumni...

That's essentially what the Colley matrix does. Except I don't think it accounts for the margin of victory. Strength of schedule is determined by opponent W/L. So it doesn't start making sense until around week 4 or 5.

    Conference Realignment

This reads like rumor mill clickbait. Again. Not saying that there aren't any new discussions going on, but there's not much to this article that hasn't already been covered.

I found this: https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/football/d2/2019-20D2MFB_InstantReplayManual.pdf Pages 2-5 list all the types of reviewable plays (there are a lot of them). Every TD is on the list. Page 6 describes the review process. "The Instant Replay Official will...

Key specifically mentioned in his presser that he had a meeting with Kyle to discuss this. He also had high praise for Kyle's play in the game.

    New Edge Building Rendering

Just my opinion of course, but at a high level, the brick with some sandstone (?) accents meshes well with the existing architecture of the dorms across the street, as well as the existing brickwork on the stadium entrances. Much better than the brutalist monotone theme of the current Edge...

I’m happy at this point just to see us move up to being average. It's actually quite an improvement. :)

That's basically how it works, and if you are willing to wait a few weeks into the season for it to get meaningful data, it has tended to be accurate in the sense of both predicting the final playoff teams as well as just seeming about right, even if it doesn't agree with the major polls. For...

Not disputing your opinion, but I was unable to see what you are describing in that condensed game video, which didn't include a close-up replay (unless it was presented much later).

The key words are “secure” and “control”. I just rewatched the catch a few times from the viewpoint of the camera in the end zone, stopping the action at the moment of the catch. Singleton “secures” the ball between his forearms as it comes down. It appears that he allows it to slide from the...

    Stats models and rankings

By the way, Percival’s current rankings have some real head-scratchers that may be indicative of preseason bias. For example, I can see FSU at #14 based on their struggles at BC and almost losing at Clemson. But Clemson still at #8 with a 0-2 ACC record and no P5 wins? Give me a break. I mean...

    ACC Standings

Here's a ranking system (https://www.colleyrankings.com/currank.html) I just posted in the Stats and Models thread that has us at 67 and Wake at 52. Why? Well, we moved up a lot by beating Wake, but not enough to pass them with their current 3-1 record. I often see the phrase “The transitive...

    Stats models and rankings

Here’s an interesting ranking he doesn’t use: https://www.colleyrankings.com/rank.html In this system, where .5 is average, GT now sits at .54, good for 67th. His ranking system was designed to converge on a valid national champ at season’s end, or to be useful in comparing playoff-eligible...

    Game 4 #GTvsWF Postgame Presser

I'll take a contrarian view and say that Griffis held the ball because he couldn't see his receivers half the time, covered or not. He's 5'11. Our DL averages at least 6'5 if you believe the roster. We were able to collapse the pocket fairly fast. When he did get a pass off, we were able to...

Game 4 Georgia Tech @ Wake Forest (-7)

Darn good defensive game plan assuming we scouted their 5’11 QB and O-line. We also had 3 tipped passes to go along with our 8 sacks/4 fumbles. Might not work against Syracuse or Miami with 6’4 QBs, but we should try against Virginia’s QB.

    Game 4 #GTvsWF Postgame

It seemed that way to me too, but when I looked at the official stats, it states 29 first downs with 4 being due to penalties. Not half, but certainly significant. Many penalties were painful 10-15 yarders and happened at critical times...
