    Conference Realignment

Agreed. The relegation will occur indirectly via the playoff system. Also, 20 teams only support 10 games per week, with less for bye weeks. Across the P5 you have roughly 35 games per week. Sure, many of those are not the highest ratings, but they’re still content that generates ad dollars...

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

Agreed. Attendance at the lesser bowls isn’t great. So the economics must support them as mostly a means of selling ads. Interestingly, we are moving toward a situation where the bigger bowls will become more relevant with the expanded playoffs, at the expense of the lowest-tier bowls. Perhaps...

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

Not sure if I'd characterize it as an obsession, but getting to a bowl game, even a lower-tier one, helps the team in several ways even if it doesn’t excite the fanbase. More practice time. More revenue. More publicity. There seem to be several different but somewhat overlapping themes in the...

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

Hard to argue with your post. But again, I want to emphasize that in an ideal situation, winning more games and more quickly getting a bowl bid does several positive things that also yield dividends down the road. Tougher opponents are probably best in the long run. Especially if you can be...

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

Bold statement, but your chart doesn't necessarily support it. It does support the notion that talent, along with measurables, is what gets players drafted. Check out which teams rank high in talent composite. Look at GTs own record vs. draft picks. You pointed out our recent shortcomings...

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

If I understood your point correctly (kind of like"iron sharpens iron"), it may be true. However, by "ditch", I mean our W/L record and getting it to bowl eligibility. I don't think we will get there quicker by playing teams we have let's say, a 15% chance of beating.

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

Ok, a new angle supporting your position that perhaps has an element of truth. It explains why Duke has as many players in the NFL as GT. Oh wait. BTW, Tulane has more. As I said previously, I have no issue with a tough schedule once we pull ourselves out of the deep ditch we’ve been in. But...

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

I encourage you to bone up on “success” via how the CFP rankings are done. SOS is important. W/L is more important. Also to my point, despite losing to us and with their cupcake schedule, Duke finished just outside the rankings in the polls. Getting to being a ranked team would be huge for us...

Neither. How about a national brand playing cupcakes? ;)

Toughest ACC non-conference schedule: GT of course

The argument for tough scheduling is “If you want to be the best, you need to beat the best”. But that’s not the way the rankings for bowls and the playoffs work. Unlike basketball, where teams play almost 3x the number of games and win quality is assigned by quadrant, football has only a dozen...

    Tech vs. Louisville

Agreed, although some of the confidence isn’t all that quiet to me (looking at WRs). :) To your point about how this plays into correcting issues, I didn’t think TFG’s press conferences dealt with adversity very well. I get the impression Key will take a no-nonsense approach to identifying...

    Tech vs. Louisville

For what it's worth (and it may not be much), 247 ranks us 5th in the ACC in team talent. Louisville ranks 10th. These rankings look at stars but don't take into account transfers in 2023. Perhaps some folks on this board have done a deeper dive into relative talent and experience at...

    2023 Fall Practice Notes

Coach Crawford and the WR room seem quite positive about themselves, almost to the point of having a bit of swagger. Hoping their positivity is a good sign of things to come and not one of overconfidence. Can't wait to see how they perform vs. Louisville.

    Conference Realignment

Gonna be an interesting evolution. Ultimately, I would not be surprised if direct-to-consumer streaming results in fewer viewers for sports overall, at least for routine games. Where the casual viewer may have ”tuned in” to a game that they saw when scrolling channels, that won’t be an option...

    Conference Realignment

The Knight Commission recommendation was probably never going to fly without some sort of tectonic shift in the way conferences control the product. The current realignment craziness may be just what is needed to get the powers that be to move in this direction. I've seen a number of coaches...

    Conference Realignment

I just realized I may be looking at the subscription models incorrectly. So, when you see “cable subscriber” trends, which indicate that traditional linear TV provider subscribers are in rapid decline, are they not counting the alternate internet-based “streaming” carrier services such as...

    Conference Realignment

I agree that if we have a rash of elite players sitting out, it's more likely to impact the blue bloods. My memory is fuzzy on this, but haven’t most of the instances of players sitting out been for non-playoff bowls? It just seems like the NFL-bound players want to showcase themselves, or...

    2023 Fall Practice Notes

Noteworthy is the fact that our defense outscored our offense in that game. All 3 phases of the game interact to a degree. I don’t believe defensive stats compensate for the total impact of our poor offense and, in the first 4 games, abysmal special teams performance. As has been noted, our...
