What’s Key’s biggest asset as a HC to this point?

This. Unlike TFG, understands the weaknesses in his team or coaches, and he doesn't let them fester. Addressed kicking game/special teams immediately upon taking over in 2022, hired coaches to fix our offense for 2023, made mid-season coaching changes on defense this year, and is in the process...

    Conference Realignment

Watched both games. Some observations: Didn’t think I’d be able to stay up for the second, but both games were competitive and went down to the last play. Enough has already been said about the FSU snub, but I think the committee got the top two teams right. Glad the SEC and future SEC lost...

In case this horse isn't quite beaten to death yet... I took this discussion in the wrong direction by using GT's numbers. uga's AA lists a bit less than 3% from student fees, and none from Institutional/Govt. entities. So I ask again, how are they wasting taxpayer $ on the 59% of their...

Not to mention that a lot of college-age kids (and adults as well) do not understand the difference between wealth and income.

Brand New Transfer Season NIL talk

Good point about FBS only. Checking the database that @TechPhi97 linked, I found numbers that closely support your calculations. Using 2022 data since 2023 transfers aren't complete, it lists a total of 16578 athletes in FBS football, and the corresponding transfer portal number is 1883 (11.4%)...

    Conference Realignment

According to the Knight database, in 2022, 5% of the total GTAA income was provided by "Institutional/Govt. support", with another 6% paid by GT student fees. A case can be made that the 5% is coming from taxpayers, but that's hardly enough to get riled up about in my opinion.

50 day campaign Go support TechWayNIL

The NCAA amended its rules around NIL in 2022, such that schools can have what amounts to a business affiliation with an NIL collective. The school itself cannot administer payments or negotiate amounts but can promote an NIL collective like TheTechWay.com.

Brand New Transfer Season NIL talk

I agree that 2-3 % is not that much, compared to the overall population of S-As. I wonder how it compares to regular students not on scholarship? I know back when GT was a weed-out school, 2-3% would have been astonishingly low. 20-30% would have been believable. I suspect there is a...

You’re correct. I probably shouldn’t have picked on Turf Management. A school can make virtually anything a legitimate field of study with appropriate depth and rigor in the classroom.

    Conference Realignment

So are you saying their scholly's don't pay for their dorm rent? I thought they did. Also, their football facilities are paid for via donations or revenue from the program. At least GT's are because I contribute to the funding initiatives. I think a case can be made only at the margins -...

    Conference Realignment

I think if they were actually wasting taxpayer dollars there would be more of an outcry, but I don't believe that's the case since schollys are funded by the AA. I agree that Key wouldn't accept that rate though.

From what I understand, APR is calculated separately for each sport. This article goes into some more detail about the uga football team's relative rankings for both grad rate and APR. To save you the trouble of reading the article - it's not good. In fact, it's really bad. To the point where...

    Graduation Rates by conference

The NCAA implemented Academic Progress Rate (APR) 20 years ago in response to criticism that S-A's were being shortchanged in terms of progressing through school toward a degree. I haven't gone into the weeds of how it is calculated, but significant penalties do exist for failure to meet...

    Graduation Rates by conference

Some see the football team and college athletics in general as the "front porch" of the institute, generating favorable publicity for the school. There appears to be a correlation between major football success and an increase in applicants to the school, at least in some instances such as...

Football also doesn't do this due to NFL rules. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with NCAA football fans, but maybe it does. ETA: When colleges start paying a lot of players more than the NFL does, perhaps we'll find out just how solid those rules are.

Not only that but comparing athletes' compensation to that of coaches is a false analogy. Rank-and-file employees have no entitlement to make as much as their CEO. Market forces and all that. What the supremes said is that everyone has the right to profit off their own NIL. That shouldn't be...

    ACC Bowl Action

It’s a nonsense clickbait tweet that attempts to equate raw player count with a level playing field. That said, uga did have a few key players like Bowers out. But to compare playing with your green 3rd-string QB to a seasoned starting QB is taking the most important player out of the...
