    Who still has cable?

I had U-verse when it first came out (trial customer). Worked well for me, but it was a dead man walking as soon as ATT bought DirecTV. Then I got a multi-year deal for DirecTV from Costco. Of course, ATT finally realized that they wasted their money buying DirecTV just as streaming was...

    2023 Coaching Carousel

Someone suggested in the comments that teams will need a GM to handle a lot of this. Errin Joe is our GM - I wonder if the NIL/fundraising stuff falls under his purview.

Selective enforcement once again: NCAA strikes again

The NCAA's concept of Amateurism in collegiate sports received a fatal wound in the O'Bannon decision and died completely after Alston. They have taken to issuing "guidance" instead of "rules" for anything that might be construed as restricting S-A compensation, for fear of being sued under the...

Investigating The Accuracy of College Football Recruiting Rankings

This analysis supports what I've thought about recruiting rankings for a long time - that on an individual or specific position basis, they aren't that accurate, but in the aggregate (talent composite), they are a useful barometer of how a team can be expected to perform over the course of a...

    Who still has cable?

First, thanks for the tip on the Tablo device - I was not aware they existed, and it's a potential solution for me for local channel access. I am a bit outside the range of a typical tiny OTA antenna and my HOA would have a hissy if I erected a tower in my front yard, so I am thinking about...

    Conference Realignment

You are correct. Not sure what I was thinking regarding the value dilution, although perhaps that came up in another part of the discussion. I think it's part of the reasoning behind the exit fee.

    Conference Realignment

This article posted by @orientalnc https://writeforcalifornia.com/p/guest-post-fsu-vs-the-acc-the-acc makes an additional interesting point about FSU joining the B10. If they do that, and thus dilute the value of the ACC's product for the their media contract with ESPN, ESPN is likely to sue...

Selective enforcement once again: NCAA strikes again

Agree that the Tenn. Chancellor’s scathing letter is on point. In typical NCAA fashion, they appear clueless as to external happenings in the athletic landscape, make a bunch of rules that are either silly, unenforceable, too late, constantly changing, or a combination of all of the above...

    Conference Realignment

I'm hoping others on this board with more knowledge of tier 2 and 3 media deals can chime in, but it seems to me that FSU will have a hard time proving a loss because of the Raycom arrangement. Swofford's nepotism has been a known issue, but that in itself doesn't prove harm.

    Stats models and rankings

Since you mentioned it, here are some interesting end-of-year results from Colley's: Our final rank landed at 51st, or slightly above average. About where you would expect with our 7-6 record. Our final SoS ranked 41st. Bowling Green landed at 72nd - very slightly below average for an FBS...

2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

This is incorrect and misses my point. The committee dropped FSU out of the playoffs after the game when Travis got hurt. Then they moved them back up to # 4 and into the playoffs after FSU beat SEC rival Florida. Again, this is not the action of a conspiracy that wanted to keep FSU out.

2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

But they didn't. FSU dropped to #5 after the 11/18 North Alabama game when Travis got injured. When they played Louisville for the ACC championship, they had been moved back up to #4.

2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

Will someone siding with the conspiracy theorists explain why the committee dropped FSU out of the playoffs after Travis got hurt, but then put them back in after they beat SEC rival Florida? That doesn't seem like the action of an entity with an agenda to keep FSU out of the CFP. Why not just...

2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

Still fail to understand your point about scheduling here. Those teams are already scheduled for 2024. Obviously, upsetting a couple of powerhouse teams would move the needle positively - I don't think anyone would disagree. But hoping for big upsets is not a strategy.

2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

I had suggested two FCS but you are correct, the extra FCS wouldn't count toward a bowl. Interestingly, I believe that rule was put into place because some SEC teams did that regularly and squeaked their way into a bowl. Hmmm.

2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

If you paid any attention to my post, you would know that I didn't say what you stated. Yeah, the ESPN talking heads will do what they are paid to do, which is to generate dramatic tension for viewer interest. But they are not the CFP committee. Let's hope GT gets to the point soon where we...

2024 ACC Football Schedule Reveal - Jan 24th, ACC Network and ESPN2

Disagree with your first two points. You can argue that FSU wasn't going to get in because "SEC", but they were in the top four choices until their game against Louisville where they had to play their 3rd string. That performance and the perception of their ability to field a competitive team...

I look forward to a better future as well, and as I mentioned, I believe our trajectory is upward. I was focusing on our 2024 schedule and its relative degree of difficulty for a team in our current state (likely in the mediocre range as I define it). I think you and some others were...
