    Defense regression

This is the greatest transformation in the history of sports. We cant expect to be competitive for 17 or 18 years. Many of our best recruits haven’t even been born yet. Patience!

Every team I know does skill trials .. strength tests, agility test, speed ... and they compare those stats to standards and to other teams. I don’t see a problem stating a simple fact that a player may not be as fast as they guy he’s matched against. That’s football.

This is a thoughtful and well reasoned post. Now, my stream of consciousness ... Bear Bryant could care less what offense he ran as long as he won. His game philosophy was built around a strong defense and preventing mistakes on offense. He even said it ... offense doesn’t matter. That was 50...

I have no idea what Geoff's strategy is, but ... if GT was a business, we would never take on Number 1 right out of the gate. No, if you are Number 50 (or whatever), you're better off getting a list of the Top Programs and then, picking off the weaker or more vulnerable ones for talent. Who's...

It’s funny. I went back and looked at possessions over the past 10 games with Clemson. We win if it’s 10 or so. This game had 17 possessions! Moral: Control the tempo! CPJ said this too. Ok, don’t run the TO. But the philospony is the same. So much so that Bobby Dodd quipped, “Against superior...

We are in a completely new era of college football. I would argue that anything prior to 2010 is ancient history. SA’s today are working on developing HUGE social media followings before they even get to college which they hope to then accelerate. Why? Because they can monetize it on graduation...

FSU’s demise was self-inflicted. The administration refused to invest in Upgrading facilities and Jimbo was gone. Alabama has dominated college football for a century because it’s central to their identity. The stratification of D1 will only continue ... as the Top 10 programs are just that...

I'm not opining on cheating or not cheating. I'm stating a fact ... 5* players are more likely to be drafted in the first round if they play for Alabama or Clemson than if they play for someone else. In fact, you could argue that EVEN IF A 5* does enroll at Tech ... he will have a harder time...

I don't think it's that. Finebaum said he hates listening to Dabo because he whines. His theory (attributed to Dabo's own words) is that Clemson has to work twice as hard to be taken seriously because SEC schools are valued higher than Clemson due to Clemson's weak schedule. So I don't think...

While I don't disagree with your comments in general, they are completely irrelevant to the point I was making. I'm commenting on why is so difficult to recruit 5*'s to Tech at all. And there are probably thousands of posts on this site by people that think Geoff is going to do that. He isn't...

Saban got it 10 years ago and perhaps, that's where Geoff got it as well since he worked there at that time. Saban's goal is to be #1 in the country getting students who can be drafted, drafted and of those drafted, drafted in the highest rounds possible. That, the ability for an SA to...

You said: Plus he can say all of our graduates are set for life. Plus, based CPJs record, he can claim you will actually graduate, and btw you should check out the grad rate of da factories, like ugag. Sure he can. But I'm talking Five Stars. And the percentage of those athletes that get...

I have no idea what you are talking about. There have been 259 draft-eligible five stars since the 2008 class and 33 of those were from Alabama. Seventeen of those 33 became a first-round pick. That’s 51.5 percent. And twice the rate of the rest of D1.

There’s a lot out there about Dabo and playing in the ACC. Like this: “Swinney seems to acknowledge the weak schedule when explaining why he feels his team has to be undefeated “because we don’t play nobody.”” Clemson has to dominate because they are perceived to play a very weak schedule.

Tech is able to get to a 0.67 win rate ... or 8-4 ... without a huge change. Compare to lifetime and recent win rates of 0.57, going consistently 8-4 is a big improvement. Win 6, 8, 10 .. repeat. The top 10 schools show no sign of slowing. I see no way for Tech to be a Top 10 team. Top 20...
