  1. CPJ Coaches show

Actually that has nothing to do with political correctness which is just a convenient scratching post for a POV here.

The special teams play walks all over my remaining nerve. Two kickoff returns the length of the field more than irks me. Play of the defense bothers me but I knew going in it was a work in progress and as such could be abused. Well, in the second half it was. Combined with an offensive fail it...
  3. Man, USF REALLY took it out of me

That, to paraphrase the soldier who replied to R.E. Lee's promise of "justice in this court': That is what I'm afraid of.
  4. CPJ Coaches show

This I agree with. By the time you compete for a major scholarship offer you have been toughened up. To the degree it is harder is a function I think of the new level. Everybody on that roster in college is one of the best of his HS team and sheer athletic ability won't get you by any more.
  5. CPJ Coaches show

As long as you say "largely" and "most" you get a pass. I think Johnson is a great offensive coach and the only one around who created, invented one might say, an offense, though Kelly now at UCLA came close, but even he wouldn't get away from the sacred cow of tight ends. I love the option...
  6. CPJ Coaches show

The fact is that -- since he is a golfer -- it is a gimme putt when he snarls at reporters that way. Because he knows they can't snarl back. They are helpless because they would not be on the beat 10 minutes if they engaged in like conduct with a jock coach. They can't, no matter how much they...
  7. CPJ Coaches show

I sense the beginning of the "whatabout" political defense seeping into college football here. I just can't figure out the calculus for the numbers.
  8. CPJ Coaches show

You might have a point but I got to study on it, but in the meantime, would you take 450 yards of offense?
  9. CPJ Coaches show

Now, wait. You can build a case on his junior and senior years when he threw about 200 times. But as a freshman completing 60%? This is called disingenuous. He was 3-for-5. Marino? The only QB in the world who could get to abandon the running game.
  10. CPJ Coaches show

Even with the anger and disappointment of Saturday's fiasco -- and I don't think anybody can or should dress it up as anything else -- we shouldn't overlook the offense that generated more than 600 yards, and 183 of that was passing, a real upgrade and in normal times a game changer. And that...
  11. Benson injury update?

    How did you know?
  12. CPJ Coaches show

Shot doctors, baseball schools and QB gurus and short game coaches make bajillions every year, working with kids as young as 12 or so on fundamentals of footwork, weight shift, grip, follow-through, and the mechanics involved. If you have the touch you're ahead of the game, but that's about all...
  13. Benson injury update?

Well, not huge other than having 1,000 yards of offense on crutches. Doesn't make me feel any better to read of other backs across the country out now with the same injury.
  14. Benson injury update?

It's Paul Johnson's fault. Pass it on.
  15. Benson injury update?

Well, you know, the vice president has only one duty.
  16. Mason's role against Watt

For those interested in the intricacies of offensive line play generally and specifically about Shaq Mason, a good piece in the Boston Globe about how the Patriots schemed to keep J.J. Watt away from Tom Brady Sunday. Mason was in the thick of it, earning his money early...
  17. KO blunder Review

Really helps me understand what in the wide world of sports was going on. Good primer on special teams, even if we botched it. Thanks.
  18. Talent Questions

In short, you don't have a clue.
  19. Talent Questions

Would you be kind enough to articulate for us the basis for your sweeping conclusion, based on two games? Please, no generalized, anecdotal "whatabout" references. Begin with how much of the cited "Georgia Tech history" you are first-hand familiar with and conclude with your by-position talent...
  20. Where is the post game presser with CPJ

I don't recall anybody ever writing Johnson was okay with losing. His conduct afterwards is in question. "Hating to lose" is a common trait of all successful men and women and Johnson is not an iota different. It is not an excuse.
