It's not the same thing. Not the same thing at all. Coach Hall is not leading the biggest transformation in the history of earth. So, the bar is higher for him.

It isn't. The ACC will never be a football power. Take the money and invest in basketball, baseball and golf.

I don't think that's accurate. Comcast doesn't give two ****s about how many people in Pensacola Fl watch the Florida game. You either subscribe to the ESPN package or you don't. Local eyes only matter if a secondary provider (e.g., Fox Sports, Jefferson Pilot, etc) offers the game.

I don't think so. If I was watching the game (any game) on WEAR-TV, ok fine. But we don't anymore and haven't ... for a very long time. It's ESPN, streaming or whatever. The whole concept of local eyes has changed dramatically ... it's not my field, but I do agree that it's just content now in...

I will make a bet that UCF v Cincinnati will be a Wednesday game on TV. Sure, you can cite the rankings but the reality is ... no one cares. Why do you think the NCAA screwed Cincy in the past? Because no one cares.

Maybe. Or perhaps the B12 just became the Sun Belt Conference.

Is the local market impact even a consideration anymore? By the end of September, the season will be over for 90% of the teams. It's the national draw and content that matter then ... I would think ESPN wants THAT. Local markets? Ok, if you are selling cars for Billy Howell Ford.

One thing I like about our cover article is that I can leave for an around the world trip, never look at GTSwarm, and one year later ... haven't missed a thing. It's remarkable really ...

Reading this, I pulled out the notes from one of Bear Bryant's coaches clinics. He described the game of football as "very simple" ... it's all movement and contact. Do it while avoiding mistakes. Looks like Geoff forgot the part about avoiding mistakes. Bryant went to on describe the average...

Ross was an accomplished coach before he came to the Flats. I recall that he quipped that had he known how bad it was, he wouldn't have taken the job. Still, he COACHED the team ... and that is what I see as the biggest difference.

No, he won't do it publicly. But, he should have a set of deliverables for Year 3; e.g., win X games, X ranked recruiting class, X viewership (attendance), X fan satisfaction, etc. I know several SEC AD's that meet with their head coach every Sunday morning after a game. For the greatest...

We should win. But we may as well be playing the Georgia School for the Blind.

I can't speak for others, but I observed the Jones debacle up close at Tennessee. The fans there was SO FRUSTRATED as to how far their program had fallen that they had to vent, vent, vent. Hell, they even did a poll and wanted to bring Lane Kiffin back ... a guy they had pretty much burned in...

Look, I get it. Strategy is driven by structure and then by culture. Alfred Chandler first wrote about this 60 years ago. Nothing new for a first year MBA student. But ... the Tech fanbase is not a bunch of useful idiots. Most are process-oriented thinkers and doers. "Show me the process, the...

The good news for Geoff is that with Butch Jones departing Alabama's staff for Arkansas State, there's an opening for someone to wash Nick Saban's car and pick up his dry cleaning. If he's smart, he'll trash the season, get fired and give Nick a call.
