  1. ACC Football Thread

Intuitively I agree, but there is something to be said for Swinney's acceptance that college kids, football players or not, should be allowed to be college kids. And to a recruiter HS basketball can tell more about a player's athletic skills than football.
  2. ACC Football Thread

For heaven's sake. It's got so that nobody is allowed to have any fun any more.
  3. Thank you, Paul

I think Monken is the more likely of all service academy coaches to find the human Holy Grail for Johnson's offense, a thinking QB who can run and throw and wants to be at West Point. if and when he does, everybody on Army's schedule needs to build their own wall.

Mr. Campbell says thank you for your support.
  5. ACC Football Thread

I gather that once again, as part of Saban's annual pilgrimage to whereever his football gods reside, he is replacing virtually his entire coaching staff, and I wonder if he works them all on a one-year contract. But among them is Charles Kelly, in an "associate HC" role. I do not buy into the...
  6. ACC Football Thread

One of 'em should have been a HC in 2019. But both have the problem, a good one to have probably, of the Clemson experience, and probably never again will they have those kinds of resources available to them. That will take some getting used to.
  7. Running Backs

Forecasting positions is great for message boards but nothing in the past shows Johnson as "likely" starting ... except a message board. We have had buckets of QBs who were said to be starters and dropped by the wayside.
  8. Running Backs

Well, okay. Those two had their chances against a QB who could in effect run one play. Then the position is wide open, and as I recall Graham didn't show much in his brief excursion. We are again looking for a QB.
  9. Your thoughts on the transfer system?

I would like to sit in when you talk to an 18 year old about a non-compete clause, which as I understand them prevents them not from transferring and playing but from competing against the school they are leaving. Even a non-compete can't prevent one making a living. Even baseball finally had to...
  10. Your thoughts on the transfer system?

Why should an 18-year old give up a year of eligibility because a) he made a mistake at 18; b) the coach who recruited him promising love everlasting now is a continent away seducing another 18-year-old (at no penalty to his ownself by the way) and c) a dozen other entirely defensible reasons...
  11. Running Backs

Nope. The post stands: if he is any good this is an opportunity for him. Nobody mentioned started last year, after all. Put 'em all in a sack and shake it out. My impression is Graham can't pass and we don't know anything about LJ.
  12. Running Backs

The college landscape is filled with freshmen QBs starting and playing well. If Yates is any good, then this looks like an opportunity for him. If not, well then one more year of QB-less football.
  13. ProJackets Update

Remarkable how many coaches in the NFL have no regard for talent or even recognize it. Using Calvin Johnson as a possession receiver over the middle was like using a cannon to stick up an ice cream truck.
  14. ProJackets Update

You seem to be suggesting a QB is needed as part of this pitch and catch thing, but it didn't slow him down at Georgia Tech. (I know, I know. That's churlish.) I hope he can recover, again, and finish out a good career.
  15. ProJackets Update

He tailed off pretty severely which got him traded from Denver. Wonder what that was all about.
  16. What is this thing about Waffle House?

You don't have time for me to recount the things I like, among them common sense and respect for traditions (even if they need to be spruced up a bit.) And I am sorry, but going over to old Waffle House Stadium is just inviting ridicule. (And I have eaten at Waffle House so it is not an elitist...
  17. What is this thing about Waffle House?

I'm sorry. Waffle House and Bobby Dodd do not go in the same sentence. Tech would be the ACC's laughing stock with a Waffle House field.
  18. Former Georgia Tech Coaches and Landing Spots

My intent was not to be snarky, but to say there are so many OL functions that it is hard enough for O linemen to get them, much less fans. Theer's no question the offense is a run offense, and so even Shaq Mason had to get Senior Bowl instructions on a neutral (run or pass) stance from...
  19. Why Geoff Collins's Georgia Tech Rebuild Starts With a Rebrand

So we're saying if we don't want the food greasy we have to say so?
  20. Why Geoff Collins's Georgia Tech Rebuild Starts With a Rebrand

So while Clemson's standard is "the best" Georgia Tech's is ... the Waffle House? With greasy bacon, overcooked sausage and undercooked hash browns? That's the brand change?
