Is there any evidence that would suggest he will start winning?
I got a kick out of reading his "plan" for Georgia Tech. He spoke as if he was an expert on turning around college programs and I thought ... isn't his ONLY experience as a HC the two mediocre years at Temple followed by ... Tech...
Todd: Geoff, we need to talk.
Collins: Hi Todd. I agree. I was thinking ... just out loud, you know? What if ... we created a NEW athletic association for Georgia Tech? We could call it the Georgia Tech Super Elite Athletic Association. I could run it. I'd rather be fighting and battling in the...
They didn't. Jimmy Sexton did. His usual MO is to take failed clients and park them at other universities until he can resign them at a higher rate. I expect Geoff will be washing cars for Kirby Smart or Nick Saban soon.
It's alway darkest before the dawn. Tell them the story of Mike Price, the new head coach at Alabama, and how he got busted using his university credit card at strip joints and got canned. That will cheer them up.
Geoff is 50. He has a negative record at Tech and a barely passing experience at Temple. He might be able to coach at a Div II school, but I don't think his ego will allow it. And he didn't have a long track record as DC (a year at MS State and a year at Florida, I think), so that's not a career...
I don't disagree with your logic, but it's customary for both sides to recognize the obvious and cut a deal. If Geoff does make this money grab attempt, he is finished in all of college football. He probably is anyway, but it isn't easy to deliberately destroy your reputation.
But to support...
Geoff talked TStan into the <500 Mile Theory of Football. "Come to Tech Young Man, and you will either go to the NFL or get a great degree." The premise was that we would "retool" GT and develop student athletes in a way to get them to the NFL. (This is what Nick Saban is doing.)
So, they went...
Geoff will never quit. It's not in his interest. He will likely never coach P5 again, which only underscores the pressure to take the arrows and the money.
Where did I say that? I will tell you. I didn't. You made an assertion that was wrong and I gave you the correct information. Donations DO NOT provide a significant part of the GTAA budget and haven't for decades. The ACCN payout is the dominant revenue source for Tech now. By a long shot. And...
I just watched his presser. It's not even fun to poke fun at him anymore. I'm just over the "greatest rebuild in the history of earth". Butch Jones.
I would like to to see GT competitive on the field. But TStan and Collins have driven this program into the ground. It's very sad.
