I appreciate CPJ's explanations and for the most part they make sense. The one issue I have is his answer about better talent on D. He said the D coaches "got the players they wanted" and it sounded like talent was not what he thought was a problem on D. When you have trouble in double/triple...
I agree with you on those plays where we get a block on the MLB, but it lots of instances that MLB is unblocked and is running full speed up JT's back before he can option the pitch guy. Watch #1 on the Clemson D on several plays getting to JT so early there is no way for him to attack the pitch...
And when we do not get the MLB blocked there is an extra defender on the playside and we lose our numbers advantage. CPJ also mentioned that our ABs are not breaking tackles or making the first guy miss, so this magnifies the problem.
I agree but the additional problem is the unblocked MLB is charging hard, inside out, at the QB and getting there to throw him for a loss if he keeps the ball, and the normal pitch guy is then sliding (slow play as you say) outside to cover the AB and throws him for a loss if we pitch. Got to...
On some plays this seems to be the problem: Prior to snap the DE and OLB are ID as the option keys. DE takes the BB as expected but the MLB (or someone else) quickly shows up to take the QB and the OLB slides outside to take the AB pitch guy , leaving JT to pitch too early or eat the ball, and...
I watched one play in particular several times (it was similar to many others I am afraid). The DE took the BB (as expected) but the MLB came crashing up to take the QB causing him to be the unexpected pitch option player and the OLB (the expected pitch option player) sled outside and swallowed...
When our run offense is working I am ok with the slow developing, deep drop, long pass as it sometimes works and gives us some "balance". However when our O is not working and we are in a must pass situation (like a lot lately) we need a few quick plays (shallow drop with quick release) in the...
Our DBs and LBs seem to play hard and give us their best effort but with only avg foot speed and spotty tackling ability we are getting outplayed in the back 7. Our CBs have good speed and pretty good coverage skills but lack ball skills off the ground at the point of catch. I just watched the...
It seems JT ducks inside the BB's dive, more behind the G, whereas Byerly and TW seemed to run horizontally past the BB and hit a wider off tackle hole.
One touch I believe but he was in on one of the pass plays and ran a wheel route but was not thrown to. CPJ said he had to learn the plays and he wanted to play him more.
As a minimum I would like to see M Marshall receiving the BB wide pitches and passes to the BB in the flat.....several plays a game and then hopefully gaining enough experience and confidence to run the other BB plays in later games.
It should help our awareness somewhat, but when you have only average speed afoot and tackle poorly in space the "awareness" is hard to make up the difference. We need 3 AJ Gray type athletes at DB and CBs who can play the ball better at the end of coverage. I think our better chance is to...
Actually CPJ explained the advantage that I previously did not grasp. He said it challenged the safety to decide where to line up and based on his alignment we would have a numbers advantage when we decided to run L or R.
CPJ indicated a concern that a backward pass could result in a fumble...
Agree. Look at the last two UNC possessions (scores). We did not come close to stopping them. We are not subbing enough to have anything left on D in the 4th Q.
On some plays Stewart was not an eligible receiver and it tells the D that we are going to RUN. I cannot see any advantage to GT to have the slot receiver on the LOS (not eligible).
