Hope he is bringing his sledgehammer with him! He has a great story for recruits:
1) Attended GT
2) Earned his degree in HST via Ivan Allen College
3) Played in the NFL
4) Now coaching NCAA FB
TM will succeed at the game of life. You couldn't ask for a more positive outlook on life. I wish him much success in the future.
Also want to echo the comment on the great work done by Ken lately.
I will end by saying that I agree that academics are a hurdle but not as much of a hurdle as our offensive scheme. In the same scenario you present where 4 & 5 star recruits consider options, which factor eliminates GT first? Academics or triple option. I believe it is the scheme. The "Collins...
You may be right that the scheme gets thrown out as a cover for the real reason. I haven't heard any player or coach say that calculus scared them away, though. Without evidence that academics are a true hurdle (other than just used against us by other coaches) and that there isn't much being...
This supports my comments in another thread stating that Tech can overcome its academic requirements far more easily than it can overcome the triple-option scheme. If you apply manufacturing 'contraints-based' logic and ask "if I could only improve ONE thing that would have the greatest impact...
I agree with ADTS. Both of my kids graduated from Georgia Tech. They were not in prison and did not "get out." This is a totally negative term that does nothing to attract SA's.
Being honest (and I spent the past 11 years defending CPJ & the TO) - I found the game less exciting than I thought I would. Unless it is GT running the plays, the nuances of read keys and blocking schemes were not enough to hold my interest.
Of course, I will watch our bowl game and cheer...
My daughter took the easier Calc class. She is very bright and also had several FB players in her classes (Gary Guyton, Taylor Bennett, and others). I imagine bright FB recruits wanting the education that GT offers would do just fine at GT. My understanding is that if you get into GT (as a SA)...
I think we would only need a few more 4* to improve quickly. The DL that went to ND a few years ago was down to ND and GT. If we had gotten him, our D would have been transformed. He had the grades and potential to stay eligible here. Why did we lose him? We are in a better position now (IMHO)...
Confused by your bolded comments. It has been lamented ad nauseum that kids think they can play in the NFL and choose schools they think can get them there. The TO offense made it VERY unlikely that would happen. You must align your recruiting with the needs of recruits if you hope to attract...
I agree that CPG is/was a class act. I think you underestimate the negative effects of his "Eeyore" personality on fans, donors and the media. He coached his way to the exit through his recruiting, performance, and persona.
Collins is the antidote for the malaise that crept into GT football...
A coach does not recruit his peers. He recruits 16-18 year olds. Everything that is sold today is based on style. If it weren't, Apple would be trying to sell rotary phones.
OFEI is not the measure of success you must think it is. Who cares if we are #1 in OFEI but end up 5-7 because every other area of performance is lacking?
BC Jacket - thank you for this information. My question to the larger audience is whether NOT having CPJ or the TO offense are moving us toward improving the key underlying factors for recruiting and, by extension, performance? In other words, will donors now increase contributions? Will fans...
If our system is hard to learn and execute (it is), the margin for error in recruiting and coaching is razor thin. Wouldn't a system that offers more latitude in both areas make more sense? I truly believe that our offense is no longer the equalizer we need. It is too difficult to get a QB that...
