Well, to be honest, this is not a Georgia Tech specific question. “Games of the Century” are somewhat arbitrary but almost always involve a national title game with teams that were either undefeated and/or ranked #1 and #2.
Anyway, I gave the criteria before. Tech might have such a game...
Several games in college football have been described as “The Game of the Century.” Though there is no objective criteria as such for this designation, several factors come into play. Obviously, media hype is important. Fan interest and viewership are necessary ingredients. And the game...
I’m no neuroscientist but I wonder how you compare the two since circumstances are slightly different. CTE involves repeated jarring impacts, which, in the case of football linemen, can happen multiple times in a game. In soccer, even a forward or a striker can go multiple games without even...
Curious side note to this is that preseason polls will be even more suspect. I could see a team like uga still getting a top five poll position even if half their starters transfer out before the season.
The open question to me is whether the current landscape settles into some manageable pattern or whether it continues to devolve into chaos. Jury is still out.
If he were seeing a counselor he would be asked at some point, “What do you feel like you learned from that experience?”
But he is not the type to see a counselor and he certainly would not like the question.
And there are leading indicators of possible CTE long before death and autopsy. It’s similar to where we were a few years ago with Alzheimer’s, where autopsy was the only definitive proof but the behavior changes were well documented.
The article suggests a reduction in concussions, not elimination.
The problem is playing at game speed and having the head stop suddenly while the brain continues traveling. In theory the padding would act like slowly applying breaks, so the skull does not stop as abruptly, but total...
Sounds reasonable but I wonder if the process was to do a full search with private interviews and only announce after completing, even if the choice ends up being Sherrer?
Everything changes in life, doesn’t it.
I was a big boxing fan years ago but haven’t watched it in several decades and have no interest. Seeing dementia in my retired heroes spoiled my love of the sport.
Now with football I increasingly feel like a hypocrite. Though I don’t watch as much as...
I’m aware that some of us keep saying the same thing over and over but it’s indicative of how frustrating the process is for determining the top teams. In theory I suppose you could not do any team rankings until, say, after everyone has played at least 3 games. Then you could let a computer...
Penn State is in a tough conference. In any given year there are at least 6 teams that can give you a L. The additions of USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon will, in my opinion, make it the toughest conference in the country.
Not surprised by the depth but way pleasantly surprised at how athletic we look. We are rough around the edges and make a lot of mistakes but we seem to be as athletic as any team we’ve played.
Sturdivant is smart and generally plays within himself but, to me, there is a fall off in...
