    ACC office may leave Greensboro

I was thinking the same thing. You could leave all the staff in Greensboro and put an executive office pretty much anywhere you wanted. Especially with all the video conferencing tools we have today.

    2022 Adidas Swag Watch

I played golf the other day and one of my partners played for Tech during the Pepper Rodgers years. He described football as COMPLETELY different in that era. I asked if he followed the team or the game these days and he just kinda of laughed and said curtly, "No".

    Our stadium

I don't disagree with you, but personally, I really enjoyed the Game Day experience. Get up, read Furman Bisher in the AJC, the cook at the fraternity house would put out a spread and the alumni would dribble in. Cocktails on the lawn. And then, amble down to Grant Field (it wasn't BDS then)...

    Our stadium

Whenever anyone I talk to brings up Truist Park, they inevitably bring up the Battery. And their eyes light up. Tear down the Wardlaw Center and replace it with North Ave facing bars and restaurants that have a field view. You should be able to have a beer, a brat and see the game. The rest of...

    Our stadium

Alabama recently sent its architects to Auburn to study the Auburn basketball arena as Bama is planning to build a new one. (They are going to essentially copy the Auburn Neville Arena which is kind of hilarious.) Why? Auburn has an excellent basketball arena but it was consciously built as a...

    Our stadium

The fan experience is rapidly changing and universities across the country are upgrading "in line with what we’re seeing at new modern facilities across the country, both new construction and renovations across the SEC and college football and the NFL.” [This from Tennessee's AD announcing a...

They could. I’m not sure those funding the research would though.

    Where the Program stands

I think the program is in better shape than 1979-83. I was there during that time and the discussion was to end the athletics program. The facilities were awful (remember the old Navy Armory?), the current Edge had not even been built. Today, we have the 2020 Initiative and a new Edge...

    Here's a thought

There are limits (caps), to how much financial assistance a university can provide athletics. That’s why revenue and private donor fundraising is so important. I will say athletics is central to Auburn’s engagement. The same donors who pay $100 million for a new school on campus also fund...

    Here's a thought

The objective of a super conference is to create matchups that will generate an average TV rating of 7.7 or higher. Do that 5-6 times a year (doesn't have to be every week) and monetize that by comparing to the NFL contract for similar product. As I recall, that's going to be about $30 billion...

    Here's a thought

Well, we call that a "constraint". If you spend $X on recruiting and are unable to a) win or b) keep them (before they transfer), then DID YOU WIN? No. This happens all the time in business. So, how does Tech WIN given that ... we don't have the resources to win at scale and/or keep them...

    Here's a thought

I think you will find that you need talent, scheme, facilities and a supportive community to win. That's not just true for football, it's pretty much true for running organizations in general. So you wannabe Top 25? Translate that into wins son ... and plan on that. I think you will find that...

    Here's a thought

Really? I think I'm much more pragmatic than hoping we will land a 5* recruit based on a 1% likelihood. Have a look at our past 30+ years ... If we assume that we can repeat the best coaching of the era since Bobby Ross, that would be GOL and a win rate of 63.9% ... which ain't great, but...

    Here's a thought

Here's a newsflash. Neither have legacy costs. Give up P5 revenue and guess what? You still have BDS to pay for and all of the debt the GTAA has created as well. Come up with a plan to get rid of the debt and you might have an argument. If you don't, it's weak at best.

    Here's a thought

I’m not there. Dropping down to D3 would be catastrophic. Eeking out 5-6 wins a year in football makes it possible to get ACCN payouts and fund non revenue sports.

    Here's a thought

Let's assume he does win 7 (for discussion). Would you still keep him? I don't think you can. Geoff has spent ALL of his goodwill and has lost the fanbase. I do not know what the season tix sales are, but based on the constant push and calls I get to renew, it can't be good. Will they be <...

AJC: Sarah Spencer added to football coverage

Maybe. Sunday mornings, we’d run out to get the newspaper just to read the game scores. If we went to the 7am Mass, the priest would announce game scores before starting the service! As a kid, if you met a girl, my parents wanted to know … what high school did they attend, who were there...

AJC: Sarah Spencer added to football coverage

When I was a kid growing up in Alabama, THE rivalry was Auburn-Alabama. The state was pretty evenly split too ... 50/50 in terms of support. Shug Jordan was as well-known as Bear Bryant and great games were expected. (I still recall the Punt-Bama-Punt chants.) Today, even though I live in...

Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

I dunno. Maybe. But a top talent is FAR more likely to be drafted in the first round coming from a top program than say, Bowling Green or the University of Lower Slobodia. And that means $$$. Lots and lots of $$$.
