Yes, the TO was beautiful when it worked or when the opponent’s talent level was not insanely high. Do not watch the UGA game from that year unless you want to see Juanyeh’s amazing kick return.
The Yahoo college sports guys just picked us to win the NCAA tournament this year on their podcast. Well, Dan Wetzel did. He was kidding but seemed to like the plan.
I think failed SEC coaches like Derek Dooley, Jim McElwain, Butch Jones, all the Bama coaches between Saban and stallings, etc should be on that list before Coach Ross and others who have won national titles. To me a coach who won a national title at a non-factory school deserves a ton of credit.
A lot of surprises and omissions. I am surprised more SEC, USC, UCLA, and texas coaches didn’t make it. How is Bobby Ross on there and Mack Brown isn’t?
Exactly. Scheme only matters when talent is close. Talent matters A LOT. Coaching is also very important but the best coached teams no longer win or compete for P5 conference titles or national titles without talent. If anything, this thread should have shown everyone what nfl level talent with...
No bias. I was there for the Iowa game too. It was my second to last semester at GT. In all honesty, I forgot the score was so close at the end. It was a good season and great one by GT standards. Adrian clayborn played a great game for Iowa and showed why he was deserving of a first round...
Your comment that CPJ took us to heights we haven’t seen since the 50s is just not true. We won a national title in 1990 and finished in the top 10 in 98. We had two orange bowl appearances under CPJ. One we got smoked and the other we won.
Agreed. I think that’s one of the biggest things holding us back. We need 30-35k of dedicated season ticket holders. Our biggest issue is that our alumni spreads out after graduation. We also lack the sidewalk fans needed to sustain and reach those season ticket thresholds
I think 16-25 is where we will end up. I think we are going to need to recruit in that range because it doesn’t seem like we are beating the teams we are supposed to beat based on talent level which is a worrying trend. Although we do technically have wins against teams that are more talented...
I agree. 16-25 is where I always thought we could reach given our location, P5, program history, scholastics/post collegiate outlook, and other factors that I don’t think we’ve capitalized on like we should have since O’Leary left.
