  1. Scrimmage update

This was a scrimmage and not a game. There will be tape for the coaches to evaluate individual performance. About 90 players were in and out of the scrimmage with all kinds of mixed player combinations, starters and backups, some with game experience, some without, lots of freshman, and a ton of...
  2. Scrimmage update

I think the simple answer is MJ was not pitching and also not getting any meaningful yards. The other QBs were not pitching but were getting 5, 7, 10 yards with running plays (but maybe losing yards or getting limited yards getting pressured on pass plays). MJ actually played very little and it...
  3. QB battle

Not many. Maybe two or so. Those non MJ QBs were getting wide fast and eating up 5 to 7 yards so most times I thought that was the better choice, especially since our D seemed to be on the pitch guy most of the time.

yes. Really slippery in traffic and leaves a trail of D bodies
  5. Scrimmage update

    325 and he looked good.
  6. Scrimmage update

He looks big, he played a lot, and the BBs got some good yardage inside as did the QB Marshall. Not sure how Devine contributed to that but most likely did.
  7. Official Ted Roof Discussion Thread

To me the DL looks bigger this year . I hope that means something on the field. IMO Branch, St Amour, and Simmons are playing the best on the DL but not likely to have the 3 of them on the field at the same time so we need others to step up.
  8. Scrimmage update

The only negative from the scrimmage from my viewpoint was the same old issue about OL depth. We had one OL player missing causing another to move position and right off the bat the D stuffed the O. Then when we starting subbing in the OL penalty flags flew all over continually putting us in...
  9. August 12th Fan day who's all going?

Two things really stood out at Fan Day. The players were friendly and very enthusiastic with the interaction with the fans. The DL is really impressively huge as a group. In the past I have been impressed with the size of the OL but this year the DL really looks physically good.
  10. Scrimmage update

Oliver looked the part of a freshman at times but he also flashed some signs of being a really good runner who can throw. A RS year will do wonders for him. He is athletically in the class with the other QBs. At one point Oliver moved the O the length of the field but failed to score as a DT...
  11. Fall Camp Thread

Even without weight change I would like to see him in the game for coverage on those third downs we are having trouble with. A little better use of our personnel might help our third down situation.
  12. Official Ted Roof Discussion Thread

Anyone (former coach or player) know the difference in technique , first step and arm/hand movement, between a gap D and a read and react D? From what little I can see on some practice video clips it seems that we are teaching the DL to square up to the OL player, stop his charge and attempt to...
  13. Fall Camp Thread

Its hard to believe it is not Mills who himself and CPJ mentioned his weight gain and subsequent weight loss and improvement in quickness. Mills who CPJ called Chubb (and Green little Chubb) said he got up to 242 pounds in the offseason with poor eating but had worked and dieted to get down to...
  14. August 12th Fan day who's all going?

Definitely myself and alum daughter, scrimmage and Fan Day. Love to see the players up close.
  15. Top 5 Looking for in camp

Other LB he mentioned was Chris Dandaneau#53 a walk-on. At MLB he mentioned Jackson and Cooksey. I did not hear B Swilling mentioned.
  16. Fall Camp Thread

I believe it has to do with early enrolles and this year we had two. Therefore 27?
  17. 2017 Offseason Thread

Students in the sixties went to class 6 days a week, had mandatory 7AM ROTC without credit, Friday 3-6 afternoon labs, 8AM Saturday morning classes, six classes of PE including survival swimming , and most carried 6 classes each quarter in order to "get out" in 12 quarters. I can clearly...
  18. Why So Much Angst 2017 Version

And Bobby Dodd whose philosophy was field goals are for when you cannot get inside the 10 yard line. Of course CPJ has confidence in his O in a modern game where high scores are required to win most games while Dodd had confidence in his D and the game in his time was field position because of...
  19. Freshman Who Impressed

As an every down player I agree. However good players who are undersized can be very effective in spot play (agree that he may not be ready for a physical beating on every play) and I can see a good coverage LB coming in passing situations where it is highly likely route coverage will be his...
