  1. CDP play calling

OK, question, seriously: who is responsible for getting the right personnel into the game? Saban went nuts when Auburn pulled a cheap stunt (in my opinion, though both are Alabama teams and so I really don't care) and he wound up with 12 players on the field. Is it the coordinator? the position...
  2. CDP play calling

I suppose if one is to be an offensive coordinator one must have an offense to coordinate. Maybe next year.
  3. CDP play calling

It is a football message board and so of course we can all name several coaches better than what we have. Because we are never responsible for it.
  4. CDP play calling

Then we should average it out.
  5. CDP play calling

I doubt there is an OC in the land who could have done better with this team and this offense. We are too accustomed to scheme beating talent, and we don't have the scheme or the talent.
  6. Update on Coach Paul Johnson: Retirement

I have a tough time seeing Johnson coaching HS ball after his collegiate career, and thus immediately arming his critics with the cry about his "high school offense". I think we might see him back at a bowl series level or -- don't laugh because he has been there and done that very well -- as...

I gather you are not a fan of participation trophies then?
  8. Update on Coach Paul Johnson: Retirement

It was never my impression he and Cutcliffe were buddies. I remember an icy exchange when he said Cutcliffe should stick to his own team after some snarky Cutcliffe jab that Johnson could not have recruited outstanding receivers with his offense.
  9. Coaching Ranking by E$PN

Why? Ross was a break even college coach. Won a NC to be sure, but was average across the board in college.
  10. Coaching Ranking by E$PN

Neyland sounds like a guy I would liked to have met. Don't know why exactly, but I would have enjoyed it.

Well, okay, So is Tech spending? And define "nice things" because I don't ever see Tech spending at the big boy levels.
  12. Update on Coach Paul Johnson: Retirement

Nice piece with a different look at a guy many perceived as a curmudgeon, and .. ah, what the hell. Paul Johnson is a curmudgeon. And a terrific coach who leaves the distinct impression he will be back. The only complaint I have with the piece is a failure to note the Army-Navy coaches and the...

    thanks.
  14. The Culture is Real

I have a question that I do not mean to be pro or anti-Collins. But I have done a little bit of searching -- I am not very good at that googling thing -- and I can find no evidence that "culture" was ever pushed at Temple, Collins's only head coaching job. So did it pop out of the ground at Tech...
  15. Coaching Ranking by E$PN

Now, if you coach long enough, you are gonna get fired. The exceptions might prove the rule, but lots of good coaches get fired every year. But it must be long major league baseball managers: the hardest one is the first job. After that, you are an automatic hire elsewhere.
  16. The Culture is Real

Well, I don't think it possible to be an anti-Collins fan.
  17. Buttkicker

A really impressive number because kicking is not that easy.
  18. Buttkicker

He earned his money again yesterday against the Pats. And his FGs were booming. It is amazing what improvements and changes take place from a 20-hour college regimen to the unlimited practice and full-time kicking coaches in the NFL. On the other hand, just enough was good enough for Georgia.
  19. I know CGC "talking points" can irritate after a loss, but

I thought it telling of ESPN that a couple of weeks ago LSU gave up more than 600 yards of offense, then yesterday beat Georgia after which ESPN exulted about how much their defense is now improved so look out playoffs. They beat Georgia to which "offense" is foreign. And has been all year.
  20. I know CGC "talking points" can irritate after a loss, but

Clemson stone-handed a couple as well. Jerry Rice did that a few times too.
