  1. Improved OL

It’s hard to look at yardages from last year because we had some really bad games with some 4th quarter garbage points/yardages. We were definitely more competitive during the second half of the season (Miami, Pitt, UVA, and NC State) with a couple bad losses sprinkled in between. The UGA game...
  2. Improved OL

I’m expecting significant improvement on the OL. We have upgraded three position along the line and 4 seniors should be starting. The second year under Brent key and new system should help as well. There should be far more space for our RB’s to operate and less DL making contact with our RBs in...
  3. ESPN: Bill Connelly's ACC Coastal season preview

I think the most telling thing about that chart is how close O’Leary had us to being relevant on the national stage during the joe Hamilton years. We couldn’t quite sustain the improvement and get over the hump but it’s possible.
  4. All Time GT Team

Calvin definitely could have done more with his talent with a different supporting cast but he’s still the all time leader in receiving yards and receiving TDs. Drew Hill played in a different era so I won’t compare his stats but Kelly and Dez played in a similar era to Calvin. Dez didn’t see...
  5. Projected Starting Lineup

When he first transferred I thought he was big enough to bulk up and play LB. From what I can tell he is still playing safety which is a tough spot to start for tech right now.
  6. 2020 Offseason Thread

I agree we typically maintained one good receiver like bebe, hill, smelter, but we weren’t deep. My perception may be more due to the offense than the talent level though. I do think we will be deeper at that position than we have been for a while. I know when I was in school it was nice lining...
  7. All Time GT Team

Good Point. He probably would have won a Heisman if it weren’t for WWII. Another guy who wasn’t at tech long but who I enjoyed watching in the pros was Dorsey Levens.
  8. Projected Starting Lineup

unfortunately I think true offensive line depth where we aren’t counting on freshman for backups is a few years away. I think our starting O-line this year will have 4 seniors with a chance for several freshman backups or people who weren't good enough to crack the top 5 last year. I think we...
  9. James Graham 2019 Highlights

We don’t have seasoned QB like Kirby did. After watching Fromm under perform last year, perhaps Kirby has second thoughts. However, we have an unproven redshirt sophomore, a redshirt freshman, and two true freshman. That’s about as open a QB Battle that you can find in college football. James...
  10. 2020 Offseason Thread

I’ll be curious to see how VT fairs this year to see if last year was an anomaly or a trend. VT had good classes from 2017-2019.
  11. Spring Preview: Quarterbacks

In several of those cases you had proven starters ahead of them going into the year. I would love it if JG came out as a much better QB, but our true freshman are going up against a QB who averaged about 100 yds a game and completed less than 50% of his passes. Granted there were OL pass...
  12. Poll: 2020 Starting QB

Yates could very well be a lot better than graham. He had the disadvantage of starting school in the fall and often times the college game is too fast for the freshman at the start of the year. At least both our true freshman QBs this year are EEs.
  13. Coach comparison rehash

I don’t think there is anything wrong with questioning or criticizing CGC after a 3 win season and I’m sure CPJ would have received the same if he went 3-9. Personally I don’t have any problems with CGC after a 3-9 season although we had some disappointing moments. Tech for the last 4 years...
  14. Player most excited about seeing

Antonneous Clayton and the two offensive line transfers (Johnson and Cochran) are the ones I’m most excited about to see next year for an immediate impact. I’m betting on us being better at the DE position than we have been for a while. The two transfers on Oline will be key in teaming up...
  15. Brutal schedule / expectations

Yeah upperclassmen would have been a better description. Junior top talent exodus to the NFL is obviously hard to replace each year but it seems 4 or 5 teams sign the bulk of the 5* talent. That article doesn’t apply as much to the top 5 ranked teams as returning production doesn’t correlate to...
  16. Brutal schedule / expectations

I love the range of guesses in this thread and part of it is due to that article above. We had an incredibly young team last year, and all of our experienced offensive players were in the first year of a difficult transition, yet we are still a 3-9 team going into an incredibly difficult...
  17. GT number 15 in lowest talent on roster

A 0.8598 rating seems accurate although I bet there are another 15 teams between 0.86 and 0.87 which isn’t a huge margarin. The recruiting class this year as it stands is 0.871 which is a nice improvement. We rank 26th right now on 247 although 3 or 4 teams have higher avg ratings which are...
  18. Future of CFB - Transfer Portal?

There are some good players in the portal but not enough to replace good recruiting. A lot of the portal players are backups looking for more playing time. I think it’s more valuable for tech to use to manage their roster and fill gaps at certain positions.
  19. Quarterback for next year

Gleason ran for over 1000 yds as a junior and 17 tds I believe and his highlights show a lot of designed runs. He also appeared to be a very powerful runner and showed decent speed. It’ll be interesting to see how his athletic ability translates on the college level.
  20. Note from Juanyeh Thomas

Paying athletes in college is always a tricky issue. Most athletic associations in college are not profitable. Football in most schools is the only profitable sport so paying profits to football players would essentially eliminate all funding for other sports. The NCAA is another story where...
