  1. Spring Practice

I think the last time CPJ let his starting QB go live was in the Spring game when Milton chased and caught JeT from behind near the goal. The injury was minor but the play looked scary. After that CPJ seemed more protective of his QBs.
  2. Spring Practice

OL depth is catch 22. CPJ believes his OL players can go 60 plays without rotation. His game plan puts us in the 60 play arena most games. (for some players like Cooper and Braun he will go way more than 60 plays). If your plan is to not play more than 5 OL players most times then you will not...
  3. Spring Game Roll Call

Daughter and I will be there hoping to see T Oliver and especially the new D. Lucus is not full speed so it will likely be a lot of Tobias and REW on O? For the first time in a while we should see two OL's with scholly players (+ Ivenmeyer). Prediction: First team O and second team D wins (not...
  4. Locker Room Renovation Underway

Things I learned I would add that the course made you man up and do some things you were terrified about before you did them. The course taught you to learn the process and trust it (otherwise you would waterboard yourself). It certainly added to your self confidence and gave you a great...
  5. ProJackets Update

Yes. winning games is important but the head coach has many other important things to do. Thanks CPJ for those many good things, especially the care that you have for the players..
  6. Spring Practice

I believe CPJ plays the best players to win. I know from previous comments CPJ has made (and his track record) that he thinks OL players can play about 60 snaps without too much fatigue. Since in a lot of games we rarely exceed 60 plays or so he seems to not rotate OL players much. As a result...
  7. Spring Practice

Not thin by the numbers but thin by experience, a product of not playing some of our backups when there was an opportunity. For example the first backups such as the Morgans (4 years in the system) have almost no PT. Last year Stickler was pressed into starting (also 4 years in the system) and...
  8. Spring Practice

Yes, I hope the defensive days of holding real estate is over and we just get after them!
  9. Spring Practice

I coached a lot of teams without a large number of good big players. Often the smaller player was much better than the bigger one. So I played the smaller one and rotated him to keep him healthy and fresh. If we had appropriate numbers (Clem or UGA) of really good big guys I could accept your...
  10. Spring Practice

Smaller guys with strength, quicks, and football instincts/skills can play competitively but they require appropriate rotation to keep them fresh.
  11. Commitment

Yes about the massive drain pipe. I was enrolled in the early sixties. During a summer afternoon rain storm Peters Park filled up and flooded the cars parked on each side of what was then the tennis courts and basketball courts. Students were able to swim at the level of the basketball goals and...
  12. Question about the New Defense

My thoughts on the new defense: Roof's scheme seemed to favor regimentation, consistency, and not making many bad plays. Unfortunately with our talent that scheme led to the opposition making a lot of good plays and keeping the ball too much. Woody's defense will be more aggressive and...
  13. 2018 Offensive unit projections

A good start would be more planned rotation.
  14. Question about the New Defense

Agree but knowing how the whole defense works as a team is a real asset for team play. Learning the defensive scheme before you hone in on position details may be a preferred coaching approach.
  15. NCAA Rule Change Proposals

Whiffs most often come from leaving your feet too soon or blocking too soon.. It is generally easier to beat a square up block than a cut and you can do it without taking your eyes off the runner. The closer to the runner the defender is the easier it is to make the block. In the day we used a...
  16. 2018 Off Season Thread

That was a great executed play but note the RT #73 throws a really good but low block (from outside back toward where the ball was snapped) that is being called a penalty in today's game. Not sure that play would stand today.
  17. College football attendance continues to decline

The very long and very often TV timeouts are ruining the game. I gave up on the Falcon season tickets because of the very long and very often TV timeouts and the objectionable sideline entertainment. There is too much player's standing around too often which interferes with the flow of the...
  18. PJ presser

I rarely expect a backup QB to come in and win a game. I would hope to see a backup play when we are way ahead, hopelessly behind, or when the starting QB is really struggling (like in the rain/mud and when we need to pass a lot). I think our starting QB has proved that a wet field takes away...
  19. PJ presser

CPJ definitely handles the AB subs. Where do the position coaches or DC fit in with the subs during the game? There needs to be more player rotation, whoever is in charge.
  20. Potential defensive depth chart

Pretty good list. Maybe Dingle and Henderson are switched outside to inside and Jalen Johnson is a safety or OLB and not a CB. I agree with BSwilling on the outside. Cole has been playing S and might be ahead of the frosh on the S list.
