I honestly could see losing to UNC by 32 if it gets out of hand early. Stoudamire could have a pretty good litmus test of who is, and who is not, able to play hard through an entire game when the going gets hard.
Come to think of it, if I were Stoudamire I might be tempted to say to the team...
As long as this conversation has been going on about FSU’s lawsuit it seems kind of telling that no one has a clear idea what they are trying to accomplish. Other than, we are making it abundantly clear that we hate this conference, hate how it’s managed and want out of it in the worst possible...
Well, there are things to hate and there are things to admire. 😊
I think I’ve pretty consistently said the ACC needs to take a clue from the SEC about product placement.
Wonder what the composition of the crowd will be. One hopes it heavily favors Tech and that we can hang with UNC long enough to get them into it.
But I’m not optimistic.
Just keep in mind the two things that happened to set things up. 3 great coaches left the game creating the vacuum that Saban could exploit and the marriage to ESPN. The national championships for the SEC didn’t start stacking up until after that. The B1G owned the record prior to that but...
EXACTLY!
You have by analogy succinctly summarized the entire problem with establishing a confirmation bias with the conferences. Everyone gets lazy and forgets to look at each piece of new data with fresh eyes.
Weird that one of their weaker schedules wore them down more. Not disputing that happened, just seems to indicate they may also have been overrated if last year’s schedule took so much out of them.
Not negate necessarily, but if a false narrative gets so completely entrenched in “football history” then, yes, anybody would be a fool to blindly trust whatever comes down the pike after that.
That’s right I forgot UPI was the coach’s poll. That was the one where the SEC coaches all voted against Tech and uga didn’t vote Tech in the top 5.
Sagarin, AP, and some coaches, were off by a mile that year. Wonder how many other times they’ve gotten wrong.
Regardless of how strong the SEC is, was, or is not, it is also abundantly clear that the negative narrative about the ACC continues to haunt the perception of pundits even when the conference is good or particular teams are good.
Clemson was an underdog in three playoffs, including two...
But if you still have the lead you should recover from those kinds of flukey mistakes. Personally I thought Detroit was still in a position to win until that fumble. My wife, who is from Detroit, went to bed to read after that.
But what happened before or after should not have colored the results of 1990.
But it did.
Tech was rated the underdog against Nebraska after having an undefeated season, and, even after Tech destroyed Nebraska, way too many voters voted against Tech for National Champions, losing the UPI...
John Davis was in 3 Super Bowls and on sideline for a 4th due to knee injury. But had the misfortune of playing for Buffalo Bills who have one of the most tragic Super Bowl records in all of football.
I absolutely think that’s correct.
Very few political decisions in life don’t involve pressure of some kind, conscious and unconscious. Likewise, there are very few real conspiracies in life. This was a matter of the committee looking for the course of least resistance and avoiding the...
I just remember the SEC champ struggling to beat Virginia who were without their QB and best player.
But, yeah, ACC was best conference by far that year.
