The top companies usually hire a CEO who has experienced failure at least once. They tend not to panic, work the problem and may even have learned and adapted from the experience. People who never experience a setback often freak out under adversity.
To me, the ideal coach is one who has...
One of the "rules" of good organization management is that during a period of rapid change, keep at least a few things constant. They become a lighthouse or a safety net for people who are trying to deal with a lot of change.
Long is here for at least another year and $850K is not chump...
Curry admitted he was not a coach. But the program was on life support too. I think he, along with Kim King, turned it around. It was VERY hard to say no to Curry.
I was part of the senior staff of a multinational that failed. And when they tapped me to turn it around… I didn’t hesitate to change direction and staff. In 2 years we finished in the top quartile of best performing businesses.
It’s not always guilt by association. I was part of that staff.
I remember when Curry was hired. Norm van Brocklin said being a “Tech Man” made him puke.
The nighttime pep rallies were awesome. That’s where they introduced Buzz. Coeds wanted to have Curry’s baby.
The ND game of 1980. The win at Legion Field in 1981. Two of the three greatest games in my...
I read Clemson’s plan. Get to 65% win rate. Then, get to 70% rate … etc etc etc.
We have historically had NO PLAN. The first step is … get back to your historicAl win rate.
Then WTF are you complaining about? Seriously?
Folks wanted to pursue … Deion, Lincoln Riley, Garret Riley, Bo Schembechler (who is dead) and any of another group who will “save Tech”.
Those are “hero hires”.
Go to the Price Library. It’s on campus. Top of the Hill. Ask for the Dodd archives...
Wrong. On so many levels. Our problem has always been the “hero hire”. We don’t need a hero. We need a coach who can play GT ball. It’s up to Batt to define that.
I’ve always enjoyed your posts, but here, I disagree.
Tech today needs … stability. I think the Tech community will support this. And that is half the battle. If Key can get Tech to 7 wins … that’s a huge step forward.
You know what? I respect Curry for saying he had no idea how to coach. Dodd taught him. I will be impressed with Key if he asks for input. He might be surprised with the number of people that want him to succeed.
Is it me, or are there about 500 new posters, all with less than 50 messages? 🤔
I get a kick out of those that say, “X should be your coach”. “Your”? 🤔
If true, Key should do three things:
Address the team.
Call Bill Curry, Bobby Ross, George O Leary and Paul Johnson for guidance and support.
Grab a bunch of One’s and head to the Cheetah.
