I disagree on Pitt. They are hilariously overrated to me. They have a good OL but lost all other offensive weapons and Pickett carried them last year through an embarrassingly easy schedule. Would not be surprised at all if they start out 0-2.
Dontae is up to 205 now so basically same size as Charlie Thomas but shorter arms. 20+ reps for that size is impressive though. Our RBs all made the board and seem to be among the best athletes on the team this year.
Knight was on there and I would’ve expected Eley to be on there for bench but the other linebackers are pretty small (215 or less) so I wouldn’t expect them to be there. LB is probably the least likely position to be there because they are tweeners…too small to bench 20+ reps but too big to jump...
Not many have gotten the chance but Jenkins has scored 13 TDs in a single season which would rank second all time for GT (obviously his was against lower competition). Carter and McCollum have shown flashes of what they can do and the TEs have never had an OC that calls plays for them until this...
Did you not read my post? It’s not a new position for him…it’s the position he’s always played before USCe. The new offense means the competition is open and others won’t have the advantage of knowing the system better. You’re not very good at arguing are you?
He’s not even playing the same position here that he played at USCe and USCe had a lot of TE talent to compete with. EJ had 800 yards and 13 TDs in 2019 as a WR and sat out 2020 with Covid. He will easily be a top 3 WR for us this year.
I’m actually not concerned at all with the QB room this year. I think Sims will be pushed more with the elevated competition and that will be huge for him along with Weinke/Long. Sims always seems like the guy that performs best when he feels the heat from his competition. His first fall camp...
There is a lot to be concerned about with the lack of experience on the OL and DB, but I think our skill positions on offense will be the best we’ve had under Collins. The season will depend on how well the OL does and how well the young DBs gel
I didn’t forget about him. Just don’t think he starts over a healthy Blackburn. EJ Jenkins could also win the other WR job if Blackburn isn’t 100%. Kalani will be good though and keeps improving each year.
The dude is special. There was hope he would start last year after seeing what he did in camp before getting injured. He might be the closest thing we have on this roster to a Gibbs level talent. ACL isn’t an easy recovery though so still a lot of unknowns due to that.
Since it’s a slow time of year and fall camp is starting soon I thought I’d throw out my projected starters and sleepers for the year.
Offense:
QB: Sims
RB: Dontae
WR: Carter
WR: Blackburn
Slot: McCollum or Rutherford
TE: Leonard
LT: Williams
LG: Tchio
C: Franklin or Adams
RG: Quick
RT...
Feel like we should’ve added a couple more transfers on the OL or DL for depth purposes. Every year we seem to have significant injuries there.
Jordan Rhodes is an OT in the portal who played at USCe and Ole Miss. have to think he could at least crack our 2-deep...
Williams and Cochran are also likely future NFL players. Not saying Kirby won’t start but it’s going to be tough competition. I think there’s a good chance he plays at Guard too so we can maximize his time on the field. Regardless, he’s going to play a lot whether he starts or not
His high point catch in the Spring game is what sold me on him. Reminds me of Jalen Camp with even more speed. We’re going to need him, King, or one of the freshman step up to give us a passing threat outside of Carter, Kyric, and Gibbs. My money is on Blackburn or Boyd
