Charlie Strong would be good at UNC but a disaster at USC. He is an OK coach and would clean up whatever the hell is wrong at UNC, but he isn't going to wow anyone. He was a bust at Texas and is struggling at USF where he has more talent than almost anyone else except maybe UCF and Houston...

Look over at the basketball board, recruiting is an issue at Tech regardless of the offense or even the sport and everyone has a different opinion on why or what to do to fix it. That said we are doing better in football recruiting the last two cycles and hopefully we finish this class strong.
  3. Making 3 Star Recruits into 5 Star Athletes

No, Sisk joined somewhere around 2012. The coach before him left to train special forces. One of his assistants is the head S&C guy at UGA now.
  4. Freshmen QBs

Tons of high schools run spreads and that's all 7-on-7 is. Freshmen who go into spread systems or systems like Alabama's where they use some spread package have a lower learning curve with the playbook. I don't know if this is urban legend or not, but supposedly all the kids in parts of Texas...

7-5 in the current ACC >>>> 7-5 in the ACC in Chan's day and it's not even close. The 2015 flop featured a schedule where only 1 ACC team wasn't bowl eligible. ND was 10-3, UNC was 11-3, Clemson played for a national title, FSU hadn't lost in the regular season in almost 3 years and won a title...
  6. Improvements to BDS and game attendance and atmosphere...

The "looking full" thing hardly matters for the bottom line. Look at the official attendance numbers and we routinely hit 45-55k. I don't know how they come up with that number, but I'm guessing those tickets are bought up by someone even if they don't attend games. I looked up the Jacksonville...
  7. Paul Johnson time frame.

He's obviously safe this year, but the next two weeks will determine how much of a leash he has next year. There's very high hopes for next year so if we flop CPJ might not make it if we finish this year 7-6.

Holy crap I had no idea Colorado had such a huge buyout for their coach. A lot of these non-bluebloods having insane contracts is going to set them back for a while. Places like Louisville and Colorado that are not in fertile recruiting grounds are going to need that money to keep up with staff...
  9. Making 3 Star Recruits into 5 Star Athletes

That's why you need a really good S&C program. Anyone can put on mass, but then you are back in the 1980s where every player looked like bodybuilders. Strength, size, speed, and health are all important. ND basically changed overnight on the health and strength front when they hired a new guy...
  10. Tech vs Va postgame

UVA played a rent-a-win last week while we had a very talented (but not very good) Miami team. Probably made a difference going into this game. But UVA was physically so much better than us on both sides. They were flying all over the place on D and their offense was literally running us over on...
  11. Making 3 Star Recruits into 5 Star Athletes

Pitt and Cuse are loaded with redshirt JR and SR starters. The rating system can't really take into account where a kid is going to be half a decade down the line. A 5 star kid is someone who is ready to contribute day 1 at the P5 level and would start at most schools. A 3 star player isn't that...
  12. Tech vs Va postgame

Oof that was bad, but we were due for some breaks after being on the losing end of them the past two seasons. We really need to do something about S&C, it was like we were JV against the varsity. Their receivers were running through us and it was taking half our D to stop their guys and they...
  13. College Football's General Mediocrity in 2018 and the 2014 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

We wouldn't have been top 10, the CFP rankings aren't made by sane people. They have MissSt ranked with a losing record to P5 teams.
  14. Making 3 Star Recruits into 5 Star Athletes

You can do it with great S&C program. The S&C coach is arguably the most important after the HC as he spends the entire off season with the players while the rest of the coaching staff isn't allowed to be in contact until camp. Technology or science or whatever isn't going to reinvent the wheel.
  15. Tech v duh U postgame!

Taggart has lost the locker room and had lots of players quit on him. He isn't really a born leader and doesn't command the respect he needs. These kids are all told they are the greatest thing ever and he isn't able to reel in those egos. Charlie Strong had a similar issue at UT and ended up...
  16. Paul Johnson time frame.

Rankings matter as far as tiers go. The top 150 kids are super elite, kids ranked 500-600 are more project players or non-conventional. If you think you can say one kid is the #23 ranked guard and another is the #36 ranked guard you are full of ****, which is paraphrased from something CPJ once...
  17. Playing the Freshmen in the Remaining Games

At his peak Vick was the greatest athlete to play football that I have ever seen in person. Supposed to have run a 4.2 40, but more importantly had that speed in pads. If he got open nobody was catching him. He also had a rocket launcher and he wasn't even left handed outside of football, his...
  18. Paul Johnson time frame.

The "head coach in waiting" thing almost never works out, but I could maybe see Stansbury do it again like he did at UCF with Key.
  19. UVa Preview

We have to win up the middle on offense in this game. UVA will try to make us go outside and string those plays out as much as possible because they have the advantage there. If we can force the ball up the middle we can win this one. I actually don't have a lot of hope stopping a mobile qb with...
  20. Playing the Freshmen in the Remaining Games

Play them if we're in garbage time. If either game gets like VT or Louisville I don't see the harm in letting them get snaps since it doesn't matter anymore as far as redshirts go. We have issues keeping guys and maybe playing snaps might help keep them motivated.
