Trying to do these weekly for the upcoming weekly opponent. Still don't have a lot of data on each position and player as Pitt only has 2 games played one where they rolled and got rolled. Throw in the rain and my observations could be way off.
QB - Kenny Pickett - After a lot of struggles last...
Mason had a better fall camp. Got hurt last fall or he might've been ahead last year. Howard has done well, but really needs to hit the hole with more authority and work on his blocking.
From what I've seen we can finish anywhere between 1-11 and 11-1 for the regular season. We just have to focus on getting the win each week and improving. Football is all about peaking at the right time.
So now that I've spent the last hour or so goofing off with my son I have a more rational view. USF will be ranked after they beat Illinois next week. Barrett ran a lot better than I expect he didn't have break away speed, but he reminded me of some of the VT qbs that gave us fits in the run...
Searcy fumble felt like JJ Green's against Tenn last year. Both seniors that should know better to wrap the ball up and it was the biggest turning point in the game. That and giving up 14 points of Special teams. Losing Carpenter hurt in the back end. Oliver plays fast, but isn't quite start ready.
Some form of counter option. They're going to be overly amped and flowing too fast. Either that or fake rocket toss into Bback wheel route like Vandy in 2016.
Yep, that's one thing about a week 1 game against fcs we don't keep hammering the things that are working. Mason and Howard both got consistent yards on dives, but we went away from them to work on other things. In a game we'll just run it down their throats till they stop it or leave something...
Indeed I even said it was based off a game where the team played vanilla, but it's all I had to go off with the current team on the field. I plan on doing one of these for every team Tech plays and will be able to provide more info as more gets put on film. A few of my key points still stand...
Been going back through the USF game replay tonight while taking care of a 10 month old who isn't feeling 100% and having trouble staying asleep. It's hard to judge too much based on 1 game especially a game especially one where they played vanilla offense and defense due to not wanting to put...
I watched their game yesterday while hanging out with my 10 month old and made a couple observations.
1. USF had a lot of trouble with off tackle runs. Elons running back was slow to hit the hole, but when they ran him off tackle and he didn't get caught from the backside he picked up 5-10...
I've done pretty well this week. Expected a little more out of Texas Tech and Ole Miss to have issues with all the people transferring out. We'll see how Arizona/BYU plays out
USF defense looks mediocre against Elon early. Just brought pressure with 6 on 3rd and long and couldn't get pressure. USF Offense doesn't look anywhere near as good as last year. Though it's the first game with a lot of new pieces.
