D.J. White Hoping for Senior Bowl Invite

DJ will have no problem landing on an NFL roster whether or not he is invited. Whether you draft for pure athletic talent or character, DJ has you covered (pardon the pun). Guys like him don't grow on trees. He has NFL speed and cover skills. He is a little light in the pants, but he plays...

Bill Belichick has nothing but high praise for Shaq Mason

Can you imagine trying to play football and do well in classes, all while your dad struggling for his life in the hospital? I admire Freddy for playing through it. There is absolutely no way that these personal circumstances failed to affect the rest of his life to some degree. I hope that Fred...

Les Miles Met w/ Ted Roof in January

I get your point here, but I want to challenge the accuracy of the statement a little bit. Against Duke, our D held them to 11 total first downs and 280 yards while gaining 3 TOs for the offense. Duke had a 10.5 minute deficit in TOP and converted just 6 of 16 3rd downs. That is not a bad day...

A Note from Coach Johnson and Mike Bobinski

I am having trouble connecting the ideas about our hopes for a better won-loss record in 2016 and re-upping my season tickets. What does one have to do with the other? I am a Yellow Jacket. Yellow Jackets attend games when they possibly can. I hope for a better record, but it has no influence on...

    Realistic expectations for 2016?

I am chuckling reading this thread. Look, I know we are fans and fans prognosticate, but if 2015 didn't teach us anything about the uselessness of season predictions, nothing will. The most important prediction, presently, has more to do with the quality of our off season. I just want to see us...

    Ireland

I have been to Ireland 3 times, but it has been a while. If you are making more of the trip and, perhaps, plan to golf, well, there are a lot of tremendous options. If you have a couple extra days I would suggest a drive to the west side of the island and golf the following venues...

Biggest need for 2016 (offense edition)

Well said. How many times were we a foot away from a huge play only to be tackled for a 5 yard gain this year? It happened over and over. Sometimes it was angles and execution. Sometimes it was just a lack of speed, plain and simple.

Marcus Marshall - Freshman All American Honorable Mention

Marcus has some stuff to work on. It is pretty obvious he was a tailback a year ago in HS. As a tailback, when you are receiving the handoff you are looking for holes to develop etc etc. We still need some of those tailback skills at BB, but we don't need a lack of vertical speed at the MESH. It...

Biggest need for 2016 (offense edition)

There is some merit to this post, however I would like to challenge a few points. First of all, knowing that somebody is out before a season starts, before making our predictions, is kind of irrelevent when quantifying the impact of an injury. For instance, having Quaide and Legett out made a...

    GO NAVY!

Go Marines! Carry those squids to victory once again! Seriously though, I want to give special thanks to ALL participants on both sides who help keep my family and nation safe. Lex and Nuke (and all others on this board who have answered the call) thanks for your service too. Every year I get...

    Tim Byerly -Update

Thank you Tim, for everything. We all have our athletic careers come to end. It always hurts. Often, we don't really appreciate what we had until it is over. Obviously, that is not true in your case. It is wonderful to hear from an athlete who "gets it" and is unafraid to express his...

    ACC Coaches set

Richt at Miami is probably not too much of an adjustment. I find the UVA hire of Mendenhall interesting. In the end, I think it will be good. The circumstances he is walking into will be quite different, requiring an adjustment on his part I'm sure. He will have younger kids on average with a...

I know posts like this are heretical around here

I see a LB with his eyes in the backfield as a TE runs right past him, uncovered, down the middle of the field. In most defenses, with that many receivers in route, that is his man.

I know posts like this are heretical around here

I'm trying to get my mind wrapped around this entire thread. It starts out with a complaint about CPJ complaining about the defense, while the last 4 pages have been trashing the defense and how bad it has become. Were we just mad that CPJ stole our thunder?

I know posts like this are heretical around here

I wonder if the kids in the locker room were blaming the "other unit" for the losses?.........................NOT! Football is a team sport. Apparently the kids understand it better than we do. This much is true: the combination of our offense, defense, special teams and coaching was only good...

    S&C program 2014 vs 2015

I think a good S&C program will help keep injuries down, but I agree, broken bones and ACL tears are impossible to prevent with S&C alone. Pulls and strains and some sprains can be reduced.

    The "missed assignments" issue

While I do watch a lot of DVR replay and study what is going on in the interior, I would stop short of saying I have a "good grasp". To me having a good grasp is knowing what the OL responsibilites are when the DL shifts / shades or the A gap gets blitzed. I don't really know that stuff. I think...

    Jeune

One thing to keep in mind. Waller got his 26-442-6 in a season where the guy across the field from him got 35-715-7. Jeune didn't have that. Who was the closest in WR numbers in 2015? Asked another way: how many yards do you think Waller would have gotten if Smelter wasn't around?

    The "missed assignments" issue

What defenses did was shift around late a little more, presumedly after our line calls, and bring more bodies forward and blitz certain areas of the field. It is not that we haven't seen it before, but we just saw more of it because, like Whiskey says, it was working. Just like CPJ does as an...

    So, who starts next year...

Absolutely. Inevitably, when someone gives a player a critique as I have done recently (in the case of Lynch), people can get the impression that the player in question wasn't appreciated. That couldn't be further from the truth in my case. Just think of where we would have been this year...
