One of the things I didn’t like about Pnode was all the long developing plays. The other one that frustrated me was how long it sometimes too to signal in the plays. I was really hoping he’d work out and my misgivings about him when he was hired would be unfounded but…
My bad for using the wrong word to indicate my intention. When I said phrasing I meant what he said as well as how he said it. You’re absolutely right that the content and not just the presentation is critical.
I can’t speak for anyone else but my point about doing a better job phrasing the letter had everything to do with the way the leader or our athletic department sounded. It had nothing to do with it doing anything to convince anyone of anything about our coach.
Most organizations have at least a few people who are good at exactly that sort of thing. The fact of the matter is that no matter what he said he was going to get a fair amount of negative reaction. But with a little effort they could have minimized it.
When you haven’t produced clearly...
At the moment, considering three years of proof that our program is not on a great trajectory and that the head coach has treated the fans like mushrooms (actively making things inside the program a complete mystery to the fans), I’m in complete Missouri-mode. You gotta show me something before...
No it’s not what I’m advocating. Our guys are frequently waiting for a play call when the other team is about to snap the ball. And I’m not talking about hurry-up offenses.
Sacrificial lambs? I bear no ill will towards either man but if you fail in your job as completely as they did then when you lose that job you’re not a sacrificial lamb. You earned that dismissal. If the DBs had been really good but the defense still wasn’t good then that would qualify them...
I happen to agree that we are still at a talent deficit. But one can't ignore the fact that our coordinators struggle frequently to signal in plays. Why? I don't know but I've seen it cause us to call timeouts numerous times. We all have. We all know this to be true. It causes our guys on...
Collins has earned that. I honestly expected 4, maybe 5 wins this year. What I didn’t expect was losing to NIU and our defense being as terrible as it is. I expected to beat NIU, Duke, KSU, and one or two of UNC, BC, Pitt, VT, UVA, or Miami. I would have been less concerned about winning...
I honestly don't care what scheme we run. I think most schemes can be successful if the players you have fit what you want to do and you are competent at teaching them how to execute it properly AND you communicate quickly and efficiently what you want done during the game. If you have the...
Absolutely you have to have both good coaching and terrific athletes. So far I think we're improving on the recruiting side of the house. And I think some of our coaches are doing a pretty good job; Choice, Dixon, Knight, Coleman in my mind are the position coaches who've been doing a solid...
So we agree on what a puppet is. Again, I'm not sure I can tell whether Thacker is or is not a puppet. But, to be honest, I don't really care. I want a DC who will make our defense better and if that means our HC has to give that person more control than Thacker has then that's what should...
Is that what you got out of what I said? That we should keep Thacker? I actually, explicitly said that I hope CGC will agree to make changes in the staff. Whether Thacker is a puppet or not I think he needs to go and we need to bring in someone who can be a real DC. I'm not sure I can be any...
That doesn't sound like "puppet" to me. Puppet, to me, is "CGC is our real DC and I'm just the guy relaying the plays." Perhaps you're seeing things I'm not in that respect. It's entirely possible, I suppose, that what I describe is happening. I just haven't seen it but I may not even know...
Yes I have noticed the size and watched Tarber's film. Both of those things are very exciting to me. My point to you was that we are ALREADY playing a lot of the freshmen this year. I said that because it looked to me like you were saying in the next couple of games we should expect to see a...
What evidence is the "puppet" assertion based on? I haven't thought that the problem was Thacker being a "puppet" but rather he just isn't getting the job done. I have no idea one way or the other so that's why I'm asking. Frankly if Thacker were a puppet I'd be expecting our defense to play...
I feel like a decent size chunk of our game management problems stem from how long it takes us to get plays called and signaled in to the team. One of my most consistent frustrations with our coordinators is that they seem to take forever to make up their minds on what play to call.
I’m sure...
