Haynes King Update: How Do We Feel About Him?

That's true. The offense we transitioned from was very bad at running the football.

Haynes King Update: How Do We Feel About Him?

Our current TD rate on offense is 34.8% (33rd). Defensive touchdown rate is 39.1% (112th). Just moving the needle a little bit will be a big help.

Haynes King Update: How Do We Feel About Him?

King is currentl 35 in ESPN QBR: https://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr He is 21 is passer efficiency: https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/individual/8 Stark contrast to previous years and he's only three games in to a new team. Really impressed with what I have seen.

    Question for y"all

I agree. It's the delay of game/false start/illegal formation type penalties that drive me up a wall. Holding/PI seem to have more to do with the referees disposition more than anything else.

    Question for y"all

I think this makes sense, and is a good place to start considering the culture Key was trying to replace. I was interested conceptually. I think eventually you want players to be in a state where they are making physical plays that run the risk of penalties, but not too much. I won't complain...

    Question for y"all

Sure. I got all of the data from: https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/penalties-per-play?date=2023-01-10 From this, I would say you do not want to be in the bottom of the pack for penalties. It seems like there is probably some middle ground. Without looking at more data and...

    Coach Prime to Colorado

Colorado has vastly different players and coaches. It is still Colorado. Ole Miss has had like 40 transfers in since 2022. Some teams are going to make heavy use of the portal, some aren't. It ignores an entire facet of college football to say Colorado of 2022 can't be compared to 2023 just...

    Question for y"all

I have found this recent stat to be interesting. I think obviously a team wants less penalties in critical moments, so by reducing penalties, you should be reducing important penalties. I do question the impact though, so I am looking back and comparing various penalty stats with final rankings...

    Coach Prime to Colorado

I think the hype around Prime makes sense, but that Colorado has a lot of work before they are elite. I think the turnaround has been remarkable.

    Coach Prime to Colorado

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-rankings-colorado-makes-history-as-bottom-25-champion-is-crowned-for-2022-season/ Going 3-0 with two wins against "bad teams" is monumentally better than 2022 Colorado. When Collins spent an entire offseason preaching about the...

    Postgame GT 23 - Ole Miss 48

It's just a major step back from the previous writer is all: https://www.fromtherumbleseat.com/2020/11/30/21725888/advanced-stats-review-gt-vs-duke-havoc-epa-success-efficiency-sims-gibbs I definitely think it's better than nothing. He just needs to get access to the paid play by play data...

    Postgame GT 23 - Ole Miss 48

Someone needs to gift that author a PFF sub. The fact that he is reliant on the espn data for this makes the articles weak.

    Postgame GT 23 - Ole Miss 48

Key has thrown a fit in every game we’ve played. I legit doubt he was acting.

    Top 10 Offense

It is usually really easy just by looking at the espn drive data, but they haven't been publishing our data. I was able to look at @CuseJacket 's posts when he posts drive data. With these I just manually look. When ESPN has our play by play data, https://cfbfastr.sportsdataverse.org/ and...

    Top 10 Offense

Despite the "death march" meme the propagates any discussion of CPJ, the offense (when good) was very good in points per play. 2009 GT ranked 15th in points per play. 8th in points per drive. 2014 GT ranked 9th in points per play. 4th in points per drive. It is true that in points per play, a...

    Top 10 Offense

47 is amazing considering how poor we have performed the past four years (and is skewed a bit by missing field goals and the td pass drops). We are 36th in yards per play, which at least removes the scoring equation (which I know is the point, but the offense can't control everything). PPD diff...

    Top 10 Offense

Definitely. That one is a bit sampling issue. We have only had three drives start from our 40 or greater in FBS competition. Louiville Start Result Gt-43 Punt Lou-37 FGA (missed) **this one is slightly unfair since it was end of the half, and it was just a prayer field goal attempt...

    Top 10 Offense

I wish this were only the case. We are indeed really poor at short field defense and have sadly put the defense in this position too often, in my opinion. However, we are also poor at "normal" length drives as well. "Medium drives" in BCF is defined as On these drives, GT is giving up 3.85...

    Top 10 Offense

Weird. Most people just say points per play. Honestly, both PPP and PPD are not as valuable as EPA per play, but at this point I don't know how much it matters to pick nits. Until our defense improves, our team stats are going to be rubbish.
