I think we are misrepresenting the game a little here.
GT had 4 drives in the first half where we either were leading or down three, and were unable to score points.
Our first drive of the half, down ten, we drive the length of the field and fail to gain a yard on 4th and 1.
Once we throw a...
I guess if QBR is around EPA and PFF is eyeballs, then a pick six might get attributed differently. A pick six in epa is almost a guaranteed -9.5 (since you gave them 7 and average drives are around 2.5 expected points).
If PFF gives forgiveness for a bad WR route, a tipped ball, bad blocking...
Our defense was 67th last year in defensive points per drive. It’s bad, but we were 112th the year before and 94th the year before that.
Our raw D FEI rank was 67th last year and due to strength of schedule was ranked overall at 41.
I’m not giving excuses and have called for Thacker’s head...
Unless the sideline reporter lied (which I think is honestly possible) she reported that players felt extra hot in their black uniforms.
I think it’s just as likely they’d have been hot regardless, but this was talked about during the broadcast.
Our Total D last year was largely influenced by the fact that our offense never did anything. Of the year’s Thacker coached here, last year wasn’t one to gripe on. He definitely gets to own the disasters that were the previous three.
The stat removes turnovers (it’s actually the point of what the guy is trying for). If you remove our offenses turnovers, we probably do look a bit better than we did. (7 of their points were on a pick 6, another on a short field from a fumble).
I hope this is a wake up call for Thacker and he coaches the safeties to being the best unit in the ACC. He’s not a high paid coach, but he still will have earned close to 2.5M while coaching here and should be fine.
I’m not expecting miracles with the new DC, but anything better than one of...
If Thacker’s intensity was actually infectious we’d most likely be able to tackle somebody. Apart from the Wake game, our defense looks soft. Even in Wake, it was primarily our DL.
Can anyone with a better eye answer a question? It seems like the past couple years teams have really begun exploiting our zone blitz with wheel route out of the backfield. Even the announcer mentioned it.
Are we tipping our hand somehow or being to predictable with the call? I understand the...
We 100% should have scored more. If you go the garbage time TD we scored 2 ppd which is bad considering the competition. It still should have been enough to win. Our QB had a bad game, and our running game is not good enough to pick up the slack.
Given the low number of drives, I think 40 would...
This is why I don’t like bend but don’t break defense. We look brilliant in a game like Wake when they give the turnovers. BG didn’t and it costs us.
Offense is going to have bad games, but our defense should never give up 31 to BG.
Not sure if it’s a mental thing, and we weren’t in it...
One of my favorites was a ranking based on EPA diff but it no longer exists (at least the one I knew of is gone).
I think when it comes to a lot of these rankings, some are trying to determine “who is the best team” and others “who is having the best season”. I prefer the “best team” type of...
I love winning. Ton to clean up, but the boys played to win. Bend but don’t break worked today. Will be nice to have a winning record after next week.
Most excited I’ve been about Tech in a while.
Why are we under the impression that we 100% had to have the line do something they were completely unsuited for the majority of the plays? If you have Tom Brady at QB, you aren't going to run the same offense that you would run if you had Lamar Jackson. The same can be said about the OL...
Yeah that was the quote, and the part I replied to was the part I disagreed with. Yes, we'd have experience growing pains at receiver and qb. The running issues were self inflicted nonsense by Collins.
