Exactly. It's a wash. So why hang your hat on it?

The whole ACC is 6-4 against the SEC is lame. OK, FSU beat a weak Florida team and Wake beat Vandy. Really? This demonstrates conference dominance? SOS matters.

    CFP Discussion

This has been the most talked about issue today. The Committee raised expectations by doing so and could have prevented it by just holding them at 5.

That's NOT what I have heard. They did very well with Travis playing a somewhat weak schedule. And with him out, how would they do playing against much stronger teams? That's the debate. That's why it will be interesting to see how they do against UGAg. If they beat them, the debate rages. If...

I didn't say they sucked. I said they played a very weak schedule in comparison to others.

No. But they can threaten to exclude the team if they do and it fundamentally changes the expectations of the team.

Yep. The played a 9-3 LSU team. After that, they played a collective schedule of 63-76.

Why not? It’s in the criteria.

I think this has merit, but why does an SEC “have” to get in? The contract is done. The money is in. It doesn’t matter what the viewership is. Someone earlier mentioned that the Committee wants to avoid a blowout. I think this is also something that has merit .. FSU was undefeated and played an...

I’m speculating, but I think it was put in as a deterrent to those players who opt not to play post season, for whatever reason.

It’s important to keep in mind that the NCAA has no national championship for FBS. The CFP is separate from the NCAA and creates a product for sale to and distribution by ESPN.

The established rules allow for exceptions in the event a player instrumental to the team, is not available.

It means that if a player (or more) decide to skip the game or are otherwise not available and/or ... a coach leaves (hired away, fired, etc) ... then the performance of the team is expected to be different during the remaining playoff. Again, my understanding (which may not be accurate) is...

FSU's average viewership is Top 15 in the country and on par with UGAg. While it lags Alabama by a good bit, I don't see the CFP committee evaluating eyeballs. All of the teams in the Top 8 excel in fan interest.

    CFP Discussion

My understanding is that the committee is NOT looking for the best team at the end of regular season play. They ARE looking for the best teams to put into the playoff. Those may not be the same. That's why they included the item for player and coach availability in the criteria.

They would have been conference champs and a number 1. IMO, I don’t think they should have been ranked No 1 based on the quality of their opponents.

Honestly? I have a good friend still at GTAA (everyone else is dead or retired) who says, basically… “We’re in the ACC because we can’t afford to do anything else”. I don’t see any leadership in the ACC. They are ok. But they are fighting yesterday’s battles. And their pr is terrible. It’s...

Maybe. Finebaum described Tallahassee as a sheetshow that NOBODY wants. Did that impact the result? It didn’t help.

meh. I’m decently connected to connected guys and told there is no path to the SEC for FSU. “Too difficult”. As CFB bifurcates, the ACC must, must innovate and be relevant. Sadly, they aren’t doing anything much. I don’t mind the ACC but … It’s increasingly clear CFB will move to a two...
