I'd argue that you've seen the data that your team sucks, not that they've quit. They are two very different things, but @tomknight makes an ENTIRELY fair point. this is not my team, and I'm just as insane about UVa as you guys are about GT, so I get it.
Guys.
This is it.
Right now.
This moment right now, where you're not a good team, and you just got slaughtered by ND, and you're aware that if UGA wanted this the score to be 100-0, and it's only by virtue of their class as a program and their mercy that it won't be, this is the moment...
How much freedom do I have to tell the fanbase/donors "GFY"?
Like, am I secure enough in my position that I can just eat 3 years of middling results, or do I need to worry about being entertaining and winning the offseason?
Whoa, I think maybe we're talking past each other a little bit.
I said they'd trade their baseball success for comparable football success.
I agree that they wouldn't trade a natty in baseball for a win over ole miss (although..honestly...a lot would).
That said, I'm not 100% I agree with...
My undergraduate degree is from Ole Miss. I interact with them semi-regularly.
Go over to elitedawgs, or sixpackspeak (their two main message boards), and read for the past year (I am a regular viewer of both boards).
They absolutely take pride in being one of the best baseball programs in...
Mississippi State fans would trade their baseball success for comprable football success in a New York second. They are far far more invested in whether Mike Leach can beat Ole Miss than their college world series title.
GT is probably a more attractive job than JMU right now, but the margin is probably not as big as you would think.
They are entering FBS, into a great fit of a conference where they'll be primed to compete right away, in a state with a lot of talent in which neither of the major programs seems...
Maybe putting it in different context will help get the point across.
Are you a basketball guy? Who had a better shooting night, the guy who went 5-5, or the guy who went 6-23?
Similarly, the team that scores 5 touchdowns in 5 drives is better on offense than the team that scores 6 touchdowns...
It also reduces the number of possessions the other team gets. Arguing that the team is as good on offense as PJ's teams because they score as many point, regardless of number of possessions is an argument that's not sending people the message about you that you probably want to send.
First question, Quinlan asked if there was some common thread to the close losses, and Collins replied that Quinlan always wants to harp on the negative, instead of recognizing the positive plays that gave the team a chance to win.
Not a fabulous reply, IMO
Lolol, I put the troll marking there to indicate that it wasn't a serious argument and that it didn't merit serious discussion. You have given far more effort than that post deserves :)
