The wonder is with over 500 yards total offense, that they did not score more. In the first half they were on pace to have 600 yards total offense. Special teams kept us in the game and gave us a slim chance to pull out a miracle win.
I think I worded that post poorly. I was agreeing that we should have taken the penalty under the circumstances. Hell, they probably would have gone for it on fourth down and made it anyway.
I am beginning to think you are onto something about the toll taken by traveling. Playing VMI this week and Syracuse next week might have made a huge difference.
I don't know who coaches the special teams but whoever it is, well, they had the only unit that played winning football except for missing that field goal that turned out to be the difference.
Did you see the expression on the running back's face when he got up from barely holding on to the ball? It was like, McCord let's just forget the middle screen OK? That is not a good call in that situation, too many things can go wrong. Syracuse was fortunate that Effords did not rip that...
Maybe the coaches were in shock that the other team was called for a chop block having flashbacks to when Coach Johnson's teams were routinely hit with that penalty about every other game.
But then, as "Heisman's Ghost" foretold, all McCord had to do was find his boy, his comfort blanket, the big tight end and all was well. Why, did we have single coverage on that guy? He is their best all around athlete and their go to guy. Sad.
I admire your confidence...I don't for a moment share it. Does VMI count? I guess so. However, among those three you listed only Duke looks to be a sure win but we could win the other two but not playing like we did today. IIWII
I would not say that given the ridiculous number of bowls but going to a decent bowl is probably going to be a real challenge. Most of the bowls these days aren't worth the time, trouble, or money to be bothered with but teams go any way for exposure and practice I suppose. We are not...
I posted that I thought this game was a "must win" given the difficulty of the schedule and how much it is back loaded so to speak. I am beginning to doubt that we will win six. This team is not very good. Syracuse has a good offense with excellent receivers, a star in the making tight end...
Syracuse is a better team especially on offense but they did not look this good against Ohio. Quite frankly, Ohio played much better against them than we have. Pretty telling in my opinion.
Based on what I have seen the first half...we are doing nothing to pressure the quarterback and our secondary coverage is atrocious. Why are we putting linebackers on #18? He is their best athlete on offense and will just run right by any linebacker. Which I commented on the other day after...
After looking at the comments, they think they will win based on their passing game with a flock of fast wide receivers and a very good hybrid tight end wide receiver as well as good running backs who can run and catch the ball. Understandable. We think we are going to win with a running...
