Do we know anything about Zach's injury situation? Is he on the mend, out for the season, or what? Hoping he'll be ready to go Thursday.

I bet Pyron's dad is laughing his *** off when reading some of these posts. 🤣
I don't know how any of us can know Pyron's potential if he was hurt in the 2 games King didn't play. He was certainly good in his starts in 2022. The pecking order of QBs will need to be determined in the Spring and also seeing whether King decides to come back. I think judging Pyron vs. Philo needs to be determined when both are healthy.

Mods, could you please change the title to the right spelling of Zach's name so we don't like idiots? Thanks.
Too late. All anyone has to so is read the replies.

I've said for years that Leo Blackburn should be at TE. I think he'd have a bigger impact at TE than Boyd is...and that's not a knock on Boyd. Boyd has been a baller...it's more of a compliment to Blackburn's potential. Blackburn has a VERY good frame and catch radius, which makes him dangerous in the endzone, however, he has average speed for a WR. He's not getting much separation, and his leg injuries probably have something to do with it. At TE, he'd be a matchup nightmare for LBs and safeties down the middle of the field.

Pyron's best position is QB. He's been unlucky with injuries and with timing. Haynes King will go down in GT history as one of our best QBs, and it's a shame Pyron's time coincided with King and Aaron Philo. In my honest opinion, I think Pyron's role will continue to be what it is now if he stays at GT: a dependable QB backup that will get you tough yardage, and keep defenses on their toes. He's a starter quality QB somewhere, unfortunately, at GT he's competing with an all timer in King, and one of the best pure passers in GA HS history and probably one of the best passing prospects GT has ever had in Philo. Life is all about timing, and I think if Pyron wants to be a full time starter, he'll probably find that opportunity somewhere else. It sucks because Pyron is the type of player coaches love, and a teammate players want on the team.
Blackburn again. His injuries killed his once promising career.

We saw Philo and King on the same play in the backfield together vs UM. Gimme King, Philo, and Pyron in the backfield together against ugag. You could draw up some really fun plays with that trio.
With two less blockers nonetheless! Can’t wait to see what uGAs defense does with that gift! 🤣

I get it in theory, but you can’t just ignore the numbers and you’re not going to ask any of those guys to protect. It’s just not realistic outside of a one off trick play like we saw Saturday.

"Getting old and staying old" is an antiquated way of looking at CFB. The game has changed. Players want to play NOW or they're gone. I'm actually concerned about HK coming back. Philo wants to play and I'm not sure he'll be too happy about waiting another year. He's the future, not HK nor ZP. We cannot afford to lose him. We cannot squander this opportunity. Its great to have "grinders", "tough", and "hard-nosed" players, as frequently described here, but we need a great, accurate, fundamentally sound, quick diagnosing QB to make an actual difference.
King will definitely be back, unless he decides to retire from the game. Who knows, maybe he gets a staff position here if he wants to coach - Key certainly has immense respect for him and their relationship is obviously very strong.

I also dont think this puts Philip in a bad position. If he’s a strong #2 then he will have ample opportunity to play and develop, and would be the heir apparent. He is one hard tackle away from starting…how many teams play their #2 QB during the year? All of this will hinge on relationships and team culture. The QB room could be really tight, and all of those guys want to be together for another year - who knows?

From a coaches perspective, your job is to win games now - Key isn’t here for Philo’s 4th or 5th year if he doesn’t win. He’s going to play the guy that can win the game, period.

Fwiw I’m hearing that Philo won’t play to save his red shirt - which I realize might not be consensus view here.
Things could change based on practice/injury status changing, but I believe, based on word on the street, plan A is King/Pyron.

Those in favor of playing Philo in both games do not realize how close it is between him and a healthy Pyron at this stage of the game and cannot not see the benefit of keeping Philo's redshirt as a contingency in the future. Coach Key is all about having contingencies, having learned that in school at Tech.

King/Pyron can get it done. Philo/Knowles is the next shift.
Key has said- we want qb s that have similar skill sets that match the system we practice.

I think we transtion to a more pass centric offense with Philo and Knowles. Philo seems to be very good at reading routes and has touch. Knowles came from ledgendary passing attack 6a school in texas.

The tremendous recruiting and training of ol is a solid fountation for keeping a talented qb room.

Yep, this is why that pairing matters. Not that CBF can’t call plays within the system as it is that match individual talent. Novel concept that it is.
