This style offense has chewed up rb room and qb room.

It needs a qb that is a real threat to run. Philo nor Pyron are not nearly as fast as king = everyone is in the box - hoping they run..

Next year with King 100% and gt continuing to focus on winning not stats, both pyron and philo will be a lot better and get shots.

Imo, the qb room needs to get old and stay old.

That starts next year

Kings injury likely came throwing it. The RB room however has got beat up Though im not sure how you avoid that we ran the same style last year with Haynes and he was fine all year.

"Getting old and staying old" is an antiquated way of looking at CFB. The game has changed. Players want to play NOW or they're gone. I'm actually concerned about HK coming back. Philo wants to play and I'm not sure he'll be too happy about waiting another year. He's the future, not HK nor ZP. We cannot afford to lose him. We cannot squander this opportunity. Its great to have "grinders", "tough", and "hard-nosed" players, as frequently described here, but we need a great, accurate, fundamentally sound, quick diagnosing QB to make an actual difference.
Worried about having a super experienced senior year of a healthy HK for a true sophomore with no guarantee he’d even be back for a third (let alone fourth) year? Wild. You can’t assume you’d be able to “get old” with any sophomore, you have to go with the best option you have any given year.

The offense needs a running qb - is where we are.

Pyron made it 1 game.

Philo was passing - but scrambled around right end and got hit on ankle - came up with limp.

The Philo ankle thing could easily happen to any qb on any play in any offense. What is your point? Plus I don’t think it was a major injury. Just a little tweak that he probably shook off by the next play. Happens to players all the time.

A tall fast NFL quality receiver would just make this offense damn near unstoppable
Well yeah, an NFL quality wide receiver will make any average team a lot better, but this team isn’t currently limited by the receivers, it’s limited because our starting qb is injured (and apparently has been all season) and can’t throw the ball more than 5 yards. Philo has had no problem finding open receivers down the field.

This is such a weird question, and a bunch of predictably weird non-answers.

First of all, ZP is a tough dude and a baller. I like the guy. That being said, ZP is a qb, and at GT right now that means he is a backup qb. Thats not because he is injured, that’s because Haynes King. And in case y’all haven’t noticed, ZP is currently the 3rd string qb, not the 2nd string qb, and I don’t think that’s because of injury either, I think that’s because Philo.

Barring injury to the other two qb’s, if ZP wants to start, I doubt if a position change is a realistic option to achieve that goal. He will probably have to go elsewhere to play qb.
I agree that King is the reason Pyron is a backup. However I don't agree with him being QB3 if healthy. He has been injured much of this year but has been playing through it and has still been QB2 behind King for most of the year. Similarly to King his injury has effected his passing accuracy among other things. In the ND game you could tell he got beat up bad but still tried to stay in and keep playing. Ultimately, his injuries were hurting his play enough that he got replaced by Philo. In this past game the main reason he was not QB2 is that he is still injured. He was dressed only in the case that BOTH King and Philo went down (which almost happened).

I still think that Pyron may end up having to go somewhere else if he wants to start though, as I expect King to stay next year and Philo to develop into the starter the following year.

My point
The offense , which requires the qb to run for key gash yards greatly increases the risk of injury. Don't you agree with my point we need keep our quality qb?

Gt stats says Philo has run downfield 3 times for 20 yds in 3 games (anonly hurt his ankle once. After the miami game king ran utm for 100 yds on 20 carries when 2 rb had been put out of game. He had huge contusions on legs, but shoulder was protected.

As i posted else where, philo has not shown ability to run the ball with out getting injuries ( 3 runs in 3 games for 20 yds) . I think he could be very good at reading the field and stopping and popping.( philos first td to lane). Maybe our WR will convince coach they can get open and can win contested balls.

This question/comment isn’t directed at you @iceeater1969 though I’m of course interested in your thoughts. But I’m more throwing this out generally rather than meaning it as a direct response just to you. Your post just inspired my question as follows.

King is an uncommonly good runner for a QB. Yes, there are lots of QBs who can run but he’s crafty, he’s got wiggle, he sees the lanes, he makes good decisions, and he’s pretty stinking fast. The other QBs we’ve recruited don’t quite seem to be in the exact same mold. So wouldn’t it stand to reason that when our primary QBs possess different skills that our OC will come up with some different areas of emphasis for our QB? I imagine our staff think they are capable of flexing different muscles of the brain when Philo, Pyron, or whomever else it is becomes QB1 once King is not here.

If QB doesn't pan out, he would be a great TE imo.
I don't see that. How many 220 lb tight ends do you see these days? Also, do you know if he has the hands to be a receiver? Sure QB's are usually good athletes but there is a big difference between throwing a pass and catching a pass with a big safety or linebacker coming at you with bad intent. I like the guy but realistically don't see him as a tight end.

Avery Boyd is an example of someone that has been transitioned and added weight.

I am not saying I hope this happens.

My original comment was... IF QB doesn't work out for him then I could see him becoming a TE.

In hs Kings dad had him play rb in power I.

And now that Key knows we are dangerous with a very restricted offensive game plan using 2 qbs, maybe he will let the opponents see a similar plan with less restrictions on qb. PieRun pass to tall wr on sideline when in red zone, Philo have called qb draw, King air raid with more spacing. Got to change as other teams will adjust.

Also i like Harrison moore pulling and leading play- seems very athletic.

I've said for years that Leo Blackburn should be at TE. I think he'd have a bigger impact at TE than Boyd is...and that's not a knock on Boyd. Boyd has been a baller...it's more of a compliment to Blackburn's potential. Blackburn has a VERY good frame and catch radius, which makes him dangerous in the endzone, however, he has average speed for a WR. He's not getting much separation, and his leg injuries probably have something to do with it. At TE, he'd be a matchup nightmare for LBs and safeties down the middle of the field.

Pyron's best position is QB. He's been unlucky with injuries and with timing. Haynes King will go down in GT history as one of our best QBs, and it's a shame Pyron's time coincided with King and Aaron Philo. In my honest opinion, I think Pyron's role will continue to be what it is now if he stays at GT: a dependable QB backup that will get you tough yardage, and keep defenses on their toes. He's a starter quality QB somewhere, unfortunately, at GT he's competing with an all timer in King, and one of the best pure passers in GA HS history and probably one of the best passing prospects GT has ever had in Philo. Life is all about timing, and I think if Pyron wants to be a full time starter, he'll probably find that opportunity somewhere else. It sucks because Pyron is the type of player coaches love, and a teammate players want on the team.

Yep. Again, I am not saying I hope Pyron moves to TE. I was just making a point that IF playing QB doesn't pan out for him then I could see him being a TE. Just my opinion.

I don't disagree with you. I think if Pyron HAD to move to another position, he'd be great at TE/H Back or LB/DE...though LB/DE would take more time and physical development.

We saw Philo and King on the same play in the backfield together vs UM. Gimme King, Philo, and Pyron in the backfield together against ugag. You could draw up some really fun plays with that trio.
