Not to mention, in high school most of us didn't have to study. Learning how to really study is what benefited me the most at Tech.

My freshman year I skipped at least one lecture in each class every week. My senior year I missed one lecture all year.

Other than reviewing grades and your map to graduation with your Advisor that was pretty much it. Removing yourself from practice NEVER been an option.

Dont bother. Its the classic gt fan argument of the one off somehow proves the point is false when if anything its the other way.

There are always exceptions. Always. Those don’t invalidate the pervasive point or percentages of said point

Some of the smartest people I know got killed in the first year. Not everyone is prepared for the amount of discipline it takes to be a good student when you don’t have mom and dad busting your butt to go to school. First time living on your own can be hard

Difficulty also depends greatly on your major ... honestly, that's probably the biggest factor ... the difference between spending 5 hours a week and 5 hours a day outside of class.

Culturally speaking ... there’s no conflict between academics and athletes. It’s one Auburn Family and everyone is committed to that.

Tech is still divided between the Hill, the faculty, the AA, etc.

Since you're not shown as a former GT athlete, you can't be expected to know the lunacy that has been spewed from the likes of Glanville & Leachman in the '60s & '70s down through the years. There have been many, many assistants, including Bud Carson, who could no more tell you where the Skiles Building or The 'Brary are than they could levitate.

I'm not surprised some S/As got escorted to class, but those asst coaches are the exception.

As a guy who played ball at a school with, frankly, consistently better athletics than Tech, I can assure you that many schools don't provide the academic services that Tech provided over the past years. Casting vague accusations due in part to a rule about sitting in a certain row in class, is ridiculous.

Let me clarify for the record. There is a public article that explains players previously missed class for practice, which would never have happened where I played. Moreover, requiring someone to sit in a certain row in class is an absolute cliche that does nothing to promote academic involvement.

On Monday, Johnson said that Marshall and the other teammates excused early for their 6 p.m. classes left at 5:20, which allowed them to participate in about 16 of the day’s 23 practice periods. The practice began at 3:45 p.m.

If the practice the players missed wasn’t really needed, why didn’t they just let the whole Team go at 5:20pm? It apparently wasn’t a big deal if our starting QB didn’t get all his reps in and he’s one of the most important members of the Team. It should have been a no brainer to just shorten the practice for everybody.

I believe the new guy changed practice to the mornings and made sure classes don’t conflict with practice. Which he said is the way most schools do it.

Bc it was needed. Since it was short week, everything was pushed up a day, so instead of Monday being review and correct mistakes and became the full install gamplan day for the new opponent

I'm confused. In a earlier post you said, "Removng yourself from practice NEVER been an option," but here you say that you missed practice for class. I don't think you're advocating for players to miss whole practices for class outside of extreme circumstances like Young's, so I'm confused by your initial statement that implies academics haven't been a priority.

Missing portions of practices for class is placing a higher emphasis on academics. If I had asked to schedule a class that interfered with practice, my coaches would have laughed and informed me that we had academic advisors to avoid that issue.

Admittedly, this feels like we're arguing over whether a Lamborghini is better than a Ferrari, because Tech is that much more ahead of other schools when it comes to academics, under past coaches and this staff. Heck, other schools, and I know this from firsthand knowledge, select majors or limit majors for players. Even for the "smart guys." That is one of the many reasons that I'm always advocating for players.

He had good measurables and, actually, a solid academic profile coming in. Was worth taking IMO, but for whatever reason, he didn't stick. No hard feelings.
