A tall kid ( moore) from HS in Texas that played TE till his Sr year got significant playing left guard. As posted he added 30# and its obvious he knows how to pull block.

Petty will play - at least play part time.
Moore is an excellent pull blocker. Could he start at center?

Has long arms.
Agile
But can he prevent BULL RUSH by even average dt or ng.
Must not let rush come utm for qb!

Our current center handled average dr, but we kept the g c g pretty tight when they had a good dt. That put our very experienced ot on island and they did fine. Both are gone so thebguards will sometimes need to help the new ot.

If he can get core and leg strength he could be special.

(It took my 6 '5 son 3 years out of hs to go from 250 to 310 - he lost agility for center but was a good guard.).

I guess we will have the short heavy guy that was backup be center next year.

Good point on the use of NIL money. Unless Tech was able to lock him into a multiyear agreement, we are vulnerable to spending a year or two developing him only to see him take off for a better offer if he indeed proves out to be all world. I hope we have some protections here, but who knows in this lawless money grab everyone is involved in.

Go Jackets!

My high level thoughts on this situation:

I hope Petty is good enough that he starts
I more so hope that he’s successful for us long term
I don’t really give a **** one way or another about next year
I bet the people that gave him all that money care a lot more than I do

If he doesn’t start, his NIL deal seems like a lot of money to stand on the sidelines. It would be a shame to beef him up, improve his technique, then have him get poached before any meaningful snaps…

I’ll be surprised if someone other than Moore is our starting center next fall.
I agree....I believe #52 is our center next three years..... love him.
I have never seen JP play, but apparently he is very, very athletic (GA state heavyweight wrestling champ)...I love tall OTs who can move their feet and hips.....long (6'5"+) and lean (#275-290) can absolutely play well early.

Moore has come in and has made a difference. His upside appears to be off the charts. He played in a highly visible team in a FB rich state. I respect your opinion on OL. What do you suppose kept him from being overlooked by the recruiting people and/or the "bigger" FB schools? I have to assume it was his weight at the time but would love to hear your thoughts.

Absolutely just guessing here.....
Played lots of TE in HS so somewhat limited one-on-one film against big-time, big boy DTs
Metrics (40 time, bench max, vertical.... plus #245 JR year weight) as 16 yr-old were probably not remarkable.....
Whoever was recruiting him from GT saw something extra....."Warrior" is impossible to measure..... Texas and OU and UGa don't ever have to stretch...we do....
I don't think GT is yet shopping at the Dollar Store for "good fit" guys.....but GT academics is sometimes still special....
He says academics are huge for him...
“First off, the academics,” Moore said. “I want to major in engineering, and Georgia Tech is one of the best places not only in the country, but the world to get an engineering degree....."
And....at 18, this from his committment article is huge..... and may have been the difference maker at the end....
"Not only was the Jackets coaching staff swarming Moore about Georgia Tech, his quarterback at Southlake Carroll and Georgia Tech 2024 commit, Graham Knowles was swarming him as well."
Don't know if Graham ever plays for us (because GT QB is so crowded) but we owe him big-time for Harrison Moore....
