Not unless he puts on about 30 lbs. of solid muscle. Just too small currently to compete at the D1 level.
I was talking to another Tech fan about this. I’m not too concerned about him putting the weight on. If I remember correctly he is a state level wrestler too which means he has been actively trying to keep his weight down. I think getting into a college weight room and and on an OL nutrition plan it won’t be that difficult for him

Good point on the use of NIL money. Unless Tech was able to lock him into a multiyear agreement, we are vulnerable to spending a year or two developing him only to see him take off for a better offer if he indeed proves out to be all world. I hope we have some protections here, but who knows in this lawless money grab everyone is involved in.

Go Jackets!

Any chance he enrolls early?
My understanding is that he is an early enrollee. Being part of a college strength and nutrition program from the start of the year, I suspect he’ll be able to put on the weight by fall. It won’t be all muscle, but he’s already a strong dude.

If he’s able to put on the necessary weight, the sky is the limit as to what he can accomplish including potential freshman All America and other esteemed accolades such as posters capitalizing his last name on thread titles.

Yeah he has all the ntanigbles of being a great tackle... Height, Long arms, footwork. He definitely will need to put on 25 pounds. I can see him playing but maintaining redshirt status as a freshman and then really having a shot in his official freshman season

Agreed. I graduated high school in 1992 and a had a good friend play basketball for UGA. He moved up there in the summer to start the nutrition/weight program. I visited him right before school started (stayed in McWhorter in the athletic dorm - which was fun) and after a few months he was already transformed. They had cut his body fat and he was so much stronger, it was crazy. And this was 30 years ago, before so many advances in nutrition and weight training. So, I have no doubt that Petty's ability to start next year will not be determined not by his strength/weight, but rather by his attitude and determination. Kind of like everything else in life!

Side note: for those that don't remember, that 1992 UGA basketball class was pretty stacked - Shandon Anderson and Carlos Strong were the headliners. The two things I remember most about that visit were (1) I shook Charles Claxton's (7-footer) hand when I met him and his fingers reached about 3 inches past my wrist, and (2) Pertha Robinson - the point guard - was the best Tecmo Bowl player I had ever seen in my life.

IMO yes. Putting on weight is an easier problem to deal with than keeping it off. But he’s a better tackle at 285 than a lot of guys at 310. You can’t teach his strengths (wingspan, motor, strength, leverage, athleticism) and all that will translate immediately. Combine that with a full spring of Geep’s coaching and I see him being a major contributor at minimum.

This past year Geep and key a picked the ol in spring and they play every down for the year. If that continuews he will have to wait till 26 to see the field.
I want to see our ol be more athletic but still not get easuly bull rushed. If our ol gats vetter at downfield lo king for screen passes or called qb draw - we will be gashing!
Petty will be a big part of that.

So here’s the shear effect in my mind: I hope he’s not going to see PT due to needing S&C, but I cannot imagine not playing him with all the money we’re tossing at him. So, who is that benefitting. Josh? Probably not. GT? Probably not.

I agree with this. I would think mobility at the tackle spot is the one attribute you don’t wanna lose.
