What/when was the last GT football game in which NONE of these 5 things happened?

1. the offense was often WEAK---RARELY executing offensive series/plays that were impressive gaining significant yardage and eventually scoring easily
2. the defense was often WEAK---RARELY imposing their will, making the opponents offense stagnant resulting in many 3 & outs
3. the special teams play was NOTHING SPECIAL
4. the coaching staff made some inexplicable game management decision
5. in general, the entire team and game experience from a fan's perspective is VERY difficult to watch and enjoy.

Or put another way, when did GT football last look really good and we could watch the game actually expecting to win and win comfortably and so therefore it was VERY enjoyable? Did this last happen in Johnson's tenure at Tech? Maybe this fan experience only happens for bigger, more historically successful programs like Alabama or Penn State. GT Football is so hard to watch.

I mean did you miss TFG years? Several players are still there and we have to get rid of the mentality of hoping to win and build an expecting to win. We are getting there and i have faith HCBK will get us there and we will be a force to be reckon with in the ACC $EC BIG10 whoever.

Maybe take up watching ballet? Ice dancing? Something where you can judge degrees of perfection without pesky things like time, weather and opponents getting in the way?

Maybe I’m inferring too much from your post but I don’t think anyone experiences this consistently. Furthermore, the fact that you care about GT causes you to dissect every nuance of the game. If you watched other teams you’d see the same things but they wouldn’t impact you profoundly. I guarantee you Ohio ST fans feel the same way about lining up across from Michigan these days.

When you completely outclass people you have games like you desire. Those are few and far between for every program unless you schedule cupcakes. Kinda defeats the point of competition though…

I agree Collins killed Tech football.

I think Key will be a great coach at Tech. I have faith in him. I think he has put together a very good coaching staff. I’m sure coaching college ball today is not easy with the portal today you have to recruit high school players and keep recruiting the players you have every day.

Not even under Johnson. His best year, 2014, we almost lost to GASOU and VPI, beat UGAg via a last-second hail mary FG, played horrible games in losses to UNCheat and Dook, and were recipients of mass turnovers against Pitt and Clem.

What you’re asking is virtual perfection, which hardly exists these days.

he said just a game. not a whole season. Tech has had plenty of games where this has happened, but its mostly against FCS teams not named the citadel.

In that case, we had 1-2 under TFG and several under CBK. But yes, that does happen from time to time.

So, I really wasn't intending to just be a troll about GT football...(I"m a grad and a real fan). Just curious about when the last game occurred in which none of these 5 things happened. And so far, no one has come up with one. Would it be during 1990 Championship season?

Georgia Tech vs Louisville (Oct 05, 2018 at Louisville, Ky.) GT 66 - Louisville 31. Louisville scored with 28 seconds left against GT scrubs.

My reply was snarky and sarcastic (it’s what I’m good at), but FWIW, I’m actually suggesting that you see these things and attribute them to being “Tech” issues because you ARE a fan.

1. I’ll assume this isn’t our offense scoring every time, but it’s moving well and scoring most times. This means there’s a mismatch where we outclass the opposing defense.
2. For defense, it’s the same as #1, but our defense against their offense. This requires a bad matchup for the other team
3. This requires a lot of depth and some skill players. I’d say we had this last when Butker was here
4. If you have 1,2, and 3, you probably don’t notice this. You’re too busy stomping the other team
5. If you have 1,2,3, and 4, you have a game like VMI, and it’s boring

Short answer—VMI this year. More entertaining but less accurate answer—Miami this year.

Teams that win titles aren’t perfect on this list. Ohio State is in the CFP and they’re griping about their coach. Texas lost twice to UGA, who lost to Ole Miss and Alabama. You don’t usually get a full season of what you’re asking for—maybe a few games like that.

Even Kansas City doesn’t have all this in the NFL, and they’re 15-1, and have the refs on their side.

What I’m looking for is an overall well-coached team with talented players and no terrible holes that is really good at something. We are getting there. We’re a pretty dang good team.

That 2014 coach and team would make the 2024 look lost

We will never win games "comfortably" without a top notch defense, especially a solid front 7. We haven't had that in a very, very LONG time.

Yes, there were teams in Johnson's era that we were able to dominate because they had no idea how to defend the option (or didn't want to try).
