Gump General has determined that watching college football can be hazardous to your ego. In every contest there is exactly one winner and one loser. Your team may lose. Side effects may include: feelings of inadequacy, uncontrollable whining, extreme jealousy, compromising of core values, excessive consumption of mind numbing substances, bursts of anger, hostile feelings towards those involved with the team, delusions of superior football acumen, feelings of paranoia, resurfacing of supressed memories from childhood (like that day somebody stole your halloween candy), and marital stress and complications. Consumers of CFB should always consult with their shrink before using this product. Bouts of post game depression lasting longer than four hours are signs of a serious condition and require immediate corrective action.

In all seriousness, a lot of college football fans tie their self worth, to some degree, to the fate of their college team. I was a lot worse about this when I was younger and when I lived and worked around mutt fans. The funny thing is that I wear a GT hat almost every day and I never feel ashamed of it even in the worst of times athletically. I know it stands for a lot more than that. I think we all do.

The problem is that most fans go into the season expecting 12-0. After being a Tech fan going on six decades, I have learned my lesson.

Boy, this is good advice. I get so wrapped up in my team that sometimes I lose all sense of proportion. It is a game that we as fans vent about constantly without thinking about the feelings of the players. I am as guilty of this as anyone. The players and their interests should be foremost. Everything else, especially our puffed up sense of worth, should be secondary. They are the ones playing, sweating, going to class, taking math, chemistry, physics, and God only knows what else just so a bunch of old has beens like me can get our jollies. None the less, about that defense in the fourth quarter...

I truly hope all the "burn the program down to the ground and start over" comments are from younger people that will eventual have the same realization.

I to use to take losses way worse than I do now. I don't think this means I'm less of a fan or that I go into any game expecting to lose. Just made a decision that college football season is awesome and is supposed to be fun.

Let's take some frustration out on GA Southern and get on a roll. Go Jackets!!

I suspect "Fire the Coach" is posted more often on the internet than any other phrase except possibly "Anybody know a good free porn site".

I tell my GT family, all this means is that we are one year closer to our next National Championship. And there will be another National Championship. It's in our DNA.

That's what college football message boards are for along with criticizing the quarterback and calling for the offensive-defensive coordinator along with the head coach to be fired.

Always proud to wear my GT apparel. The Institute is a special place, whether the football team competes well or not. I know it is tough on many of our fans/alumni who have to work around Mutts all day, but if I was you, I would still be proud of my team. We are the only STEM school in the country (except military academies) trying to compete at the highest level.
