Alright kids, put it out there.

Without Kenny Gaines

GT 64 UGA 57

With Kenny Gaines

GT 65 UGA 64

We are catching these guys at the right time IMHO. Our physicality on the front line should be punishing making them rely on perimeter points. Gaines coming off an illness like mono, there is very little chance he gets a ton of minutes or really even plays, some kids miss entire seasons due to the illness. All speculation on my part, only thing on his status I could find was before the GSW game.

And as much as I beat my drum and grind my axe when it comes to CBG, he never, ever, ever.....................................ever, loses to Georgia.

My prediction is that Corey Heyward is going to play a lot in this game. We'll need his defense.

I think that this is going to be a hard fought game with a lot of back-n-forth action, but I think that in the end, we do enough to win the game. I'll say that behind a hyped-up McCamish Pavilion crowd, the Yellow Jackets pull away late, and win by 7.

Bold Predictions:

- Tadric scores double figures in his first game, knocking down a few three's.
- Jorgensen collects a minimum of 5 assist
- MGH stuffs the stat sheet (12-14 points, 5-6 boards, and a couple of dimes)

Not sure how "Bold" those predictions are, but I'm sticking to them!!

KG.. keep quiet about Bolden, and puhleeaze, no mention of Tadric!

I think this will be a tough it out game. I worry that we don't have any outside scoring threat uga has to worry about. That will allow them to collapse on the lane. The ability to make entry passes could be the key for us on offense. That and offensive rebounding. Any team with poor shooters has to be hawkish on the boards.

I am picking a win, but it will likely be a nail biter.

I like Peacone's predictions. Even if Gaines plays, because of his illness there won't be a big difference in the score. But this game should give us an early idea of what this team is like and made of.

The freshman forward they have is pretty decent to btw, his name starts with a y I think, but I think we are to big and strong in the paint as out rebound them

I'm traveling today and will be in the airport for quite some time, so I need something to keep me busy. With that being the case, I thought I'd start more discussion on the UGA game. Since we already have this thread, I didn't it made sense to start a new one, so I will put this here.

More "Bold" Predictions:

- Zone Defense: I think that you are going to see us play a lot more defense than normal. With Q in the game at the top of the zone, it creates a lot of problems. Playing a zone should help us keep Mann out of the lane which is where is the most deadly. If we make UGA beat us from the outside, then I like our chances.

- Corey "Truck" Heyward: As dtm as mentioned, I think that we see Corey play a lot in this game. He has been called our best perimeter defender by BG, and I think that we ask him to come off of the bench and slow down Mann. Any success that UGA has this year will be dependent on Mann, and if we are able to slow him down, then our chances increase exponentially.

- Tadric scores double figures in his first game, knocking down a few three's.
- Jorgensen collects a minimum of 5 assist
- MGH stuffs the stat sheet (12-14 points, 5-6 boards, and a couple of dimes)

Since dtm has put out a strict no gambling policy on this game, I thought I'd throw something out there for those us that do enjoy a little action on the games. Disclaimer, these numbers are not from Vegas and are off the top of my head:

- Tadric O/U 9.5 points: I will take the Over. In all the years that I have watched him play, he has generally played his best in the biggest games. I expect him to land somewhere around 10-12 with a few boards in his debut.

- Demarco O/U 7.5 rebounds - This is a tough one. I expect him to be a beast on the boards for us this year, but I'm concerned about foul trouble with him. UGA has size with Thornton and their new freshman, and I suspect that they go at Demarco to try and get a few early fouls. That could change the shape of the game as I suspect that we go to the post early and often, and I think tha the is our best traditional post scorer. I think that many of us are taking for granted that we will win the battle of the boards, but it truly will be a battle. It's going to be close, but I'm going to take the under as I think that Mitchell and Sampson and hopefully MGH and the other guards help give us the edge. Demarco will end up with 6 or 7 boards most likely, if he pulls down 9 or more, then I think that we win going away.

A few more...

- Team Free Throw Percentage - O/U 65%?
- MGH O/U 14.5 points?
- More minutes played: AD or Lammers?

Tadric O/U 9.5 points
I think you set the line pretty well. If he comes out cold like in the exhibition game he probably won't reach double digits, but if he hits a couple three's early he could have a big game. That said, I think our veteran players will carry us more against this experienced uga team so I'll take the under.

Demarco O/U 7.5
I'll take the over with him and Mitchell both approaching double digit boards.

Team Free Throw Percentage - O/U 65%?
I HOPE I'm wrong, but I'll take the under. I think we'll attack the post a lot and our big men will get to the line and I think we all know how that will go...

MGH O/U 14.5 points?
Over. This is his team now and he needs to set the tone in this HUGE game to start the year. He should be playing big minutes and we'll look to him to score.

More minutes played: AD or Lammers?
I have no clue what the rotation is going to be so I'm taking a complete guess and saying Lammers? I think AD is a little more raw and we may see Lammers get more minutes this season.

Tadrics points on the over
Points for GT under 65.5
Demaro-Under 7.5 (with 7, mostly due to minutes played)
Ill take the under on 65% from the line
Over on MGH
Lammers with the minutes

@McCamish Maniacs - Good stuff.. I agree with you on all items except Tadric.

@Peacone36 - Again, really good stuff. Can you provide some more commentary on those when you get a sec?

I'm curious as to your thoughts on Team Total U 65.5. I think that you picked us to win, so I am assuming that you are expecting a big defensive effort if we are to score less than 65.5 and still get the W. Also, what your thoughts on Lammers. How do you see him fitting into the bigs rotation?

@connell62 - With the under and the W I just like our defensive strengths matching up with what they want to do on offense. I think we have a pure PG who hopefully runs good sets and keeps the TO rate low and doesn't allow them to get out and run, but at the same time we have some athletic wings in CH TJ and MGH to hopefully keep Mann out of the lane and with our rebounding ability should keep the second chances for Thornton to a minimum.

I have never in my life seen Lammers or Gueye play in real time in the flow of a game so my take on the minutes is simply a guess, I think when we need a stretch 4 on the floor those minutes go to Q and when Cox and Mitchell need a blow and we need a body on the block those minutes go to the stronger/bigger of the 2 which is obviously BL.

Also, with Gaines being out or a non factor I expect UGA to struggle on the offense a bit.
When it comes to Tadric I just want him to be the next great left handed guard at GT. While I don't expect him to get 15 a game, I think 11-13, at home, on opening night, against UGA (the school he gave the Heisman to at the last second) in his first college game, is just a really good juicy story. I think he will be amped up.
