Yep, definitely a better fit both geographically and culturally. Plus it gives the SEC a foot in the DMV recruiting region. A North Carolina school would also have been great. Good academics, geographic fit, natural rivalries with Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia, and a basketball boost to boot. Plus those large TV markets that seem to drive expansion. Would have a hard time prying them away though. Wake Forest would probably have been the easiest but also the least desirable.

North Carolina and the other Tobacco Road Schools will never leave the ACC. If they tried to the North Carolina Legislature would raise hell.

I agree. Those would be very tough schools. You would likely have to take at least a pair of them (UNC/Duke or UNC/NCSU) to even begin a negotiation.

A lot of people in SEC Country think VT will ditch the ACC for the SEC sometime in the future
