This was Deivon’s best game as a Jacket. A few games ago I was ready to tell you he couldn’t hit the side of a barn and we’d never win any game with him on the floor. We won today because of him.

It was also Meka’s best game as a jacket.

We won because of the freshman. Kelly, Meka and Deebo.

We won because of the zone.

We won because we played harder than they did.

Interesting game. The more we played like the start of season (man to man defense, Mike dribbling, Usher pushing) the worse we were.

We’ve become a much better team in the last few games.

Be careful before you judge young players. They will improve. If Smith's skill level ever catches up to his athleticism he will be in the NBA. Coleman and Kelly are showing flashes of what they can become. Meka is basically a true freshman since he missed all last year with injury. We have some nice young pieces. I hope to see them continue to improve through the rest of the season.

This was a really fun game, and an interesting one to watch. Early in the game, I said in the chat--this is the type of game that is going our way--few fouls called, open shots going down. For the most part, that continued and then we pulled out the win in the end. Here are a few observations:

-Kudos to CJP for playing the young guys and then sticking with them when they played well. Meka, Smith, Coleman, and Kelly were the stars in this one (a combined +52!), while the starters had a collective -27. Of course, this doesn't tell the whole story, but you could see those guys playing with energy and confidence, and I am glad Pastner left them out there. It could have just been the matchups with Clemson, but for this game, the bench outplayed the starters.
-Defensive intensity was back up, and that makes all the difference in our games.
-Smith was amazing. He has a real knack for timing offensive rebounds and he was making some good passes today as well. Again, to those who keep complaining about the PG position....here is their combined stat line: 24 points, 13(!) rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, and 6 TOs.
-We really were better with Devoe out of the game. He tends to force his shot and his defensive effort comes and goes sometimes. However, props to him as he realized that (1) his shot wasn't falling, and (2) the defense was giving so much attention that others were bound to be open. He made some excellent passes in the last 5 minutes of the game that helped to seal the win. Winning>personal stats.
-Meka! He had some big steals and played with energy and toughness. He is still tentative on offense and doesn't need to be touching the ball much, but he kept some plays alive, too.
-USHER! That guy just makes winning plays. The steal at the end was a game-changer. Love his energy, and I wish he would stay for 5 more years.
-I wish we had PJ Hall and Dawes on our team. Both of them play with confidence, toughness, and energy. Hall is going to be tough to handle in the next few years.

Nice to get a win. Hoping for another on Wednesday night in Miami. Go Jackets!

I was driving yesterday during the game and had to listen on the radio. Pretty cool btw.

Anyway, one stat jumped off the page at me. At one point toward the end of the game, our bench had out scored their bench 32-7.

That’s how you win ball games. As SAB says above, Meka, Smith, Kelly, and Coleman were the stars.

Go Jackets!!

Also be careful before you Judge Pastner as not being able to coach and develop talent.

I won't make excuses, but his coaching time has been limited with the flu and COVID this year. He needs to get the team more ready for early in the season; as he has said.

That was the most fun I've had at a GT basketball game this season. GT used screens and motion to get the offense going instead of the stagnant modified Princeton for the most part. It was good to see the young guys getting minutes and playing well.

Dang. Didn’t get to see this one. Good to see them get a much needed win. Course it may tell me the best thing I can do now is stay away. Karma 😢😢

Besides what has been stated, the other thing I note in the box score is the free throws were essentially even. We have lost several games at the line and glad to see that

Strange box score as I think others have commented. Unless you look very closely it is hard to tell which team won just from the box scores. Tech was even or behind in several categories.

Also, to me in the actual game, Tech looked more dominant than the score indicated.
