If you can win at Iowa State, then you are a good coach. Iowa State doesn't have much of a history ( especially compared to Iowa) and are in the middle of nowhere.

Iowa State hasn't had a steady winner since Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce coached them from 1968-1978.

Exactly, IIRC correctly Majors' last game at Iowa State was against Tech at the 1972 Liberty Bowl.

In 1972 Iowa State got an invitation to the Liberty Bowl when they had a 5-3-1 record and lost to Colorado and Missouri going into the Liberty Bowl with a 5-5-1 record.

Not gonna lie, I do not know much about that Iowa State team, all I really know is that Tech had controversy and possible boycotts heading into that game.

The bowls made it up to uga in 1989 when they went to a bowl ahead of Tech. uga was 6-5 while Tech was 7-4.
